Its the second home for the Space Shuttle - only runway long enough for it and is said to be an emergency landing site for it

It's a bloody long way for it to glide if it fails to land at Florida, still, I suppose it does have a couple of rockets to give it a quick spurt.

P.S. I want to come.

nope not yet, when I have a chance I'll have a chat with them, go up there and do a feasibility study. I need to know I can do it safely and that they are comfortable with it first.

Lets hope Craig can sort this as an extra event
as long as its not on the weekends of 24th-25th Sept or 1st-2nd Oct i will be there

How long is the runway at bruntingthorpe? it's not easy finding runway lengths on the net,how long would you need for the top cars that are in the 190s to reach
the magic 200mph?

C.R.E.A.M the Cerbera event is to be held there. Very similar format, long straight, flat out performance day.

GCerbera (Graham Collins) may be able to advise

I have driven on both sites (Brunters and Elvington) many times and also have calibrated satellite photos of both sites. The facts are as follows:

1. The runways are virtually the same length, but since Brunters is never usable as full length due to parked cars, Elvington is longer in effect.

2. If you get the main runway, it's great, the secondary runway is not as good and is marginally shorter (see earlier comment about asphalt part of main runway).

3. It is safer than Brunters as there are no trees or parked cars/lorries anywhere near the runway, it is entirely surrounded by fields for hundreds of metres.

4. It is not as secure, there is no on-site security, so the event date would have to be kept secret or marshalls employed to refuse admittance to spectators if the event was to be kept private as per Brunters.

5. It is well-used by the Straightliners Club, who hire timing gear and organise events there, they would be the best to use. Contact Trevor Duckworth trevor@straightliners.co.uk - they provide the gear used at Ten Of The Best at Elvington and will also do private days.

oh I think something could be arranged for the usual VMVs*

*V.Max Veterans

Both me and StuB live only 10-15 mins from Elvington and Oh Boy is it a good road to get there.

Rods, on the other hand, lives about 30 miles further away but can probably get there quicker

I'm gonna have to disagree on this. The presence of three corners on the run back to the pits at VMax adds little to the event, especially if you are trying to cool the brakes after a banzai run......

This may be true for others? However the sole reason I go to VMAX is to throw the car into the corners and enjoy the wide expanse of surface that Brunters offers.

the reason I go to Vmax is to meet a lot of the guys i've met of here and our Lemans convoy...

Its not just about the Twisties and straights, its a great people event too.

I've done plenty of other airfield and track days, nothing else holds the same personality as Vmax...

Indeed - why do many of us with cars that are never going to crack 200mph turn up time after time to record speeds that we've already seen at previous events? It's a social event as much as a trackday - thats the great thing about VMAX
