Just booked my place with the club office. I'm a track day virgin, so please be gentle with me and break me in slowly!!!!!! I believe the noise limit is 105dba. At what engine speed is that measured and how far away from the zorst is the noise meter placed? I'll check the the noise level myself before I go just in case I have to put the standard cans back on the Tuscan.

Croft Circuit doesn't measure cars on entry. The pit wall marshal will black flag cars that he suspects to be too loud and then test them. I have yet to witness a TVR be pulled. To be honest Cerberas with straight through exhausts and some precat wedges may get close, S6's even with loud exhausts won't be an issue.

Thanks for the reply Bob. I would still be interested in how they do carry out the test though, for future reference.

The meter is set at 45deg to the tailpipe at 1 metre. With engine hot the revs need to be held at a constant 1/3 of the rev range. The average value over a 'short' period is then given for your car. These values are always low because there's no popping and banging and the engine isn't under load. Your car will develop much greater values in use but the track uses this set test to give them comfort that the car won't exceed the council requirements for noise pollution. The test method can vary from track to track but the principle that a controlled trackside test be used to extrapolate a track use value is the same on all the tracks as far as I am aware.

Word of warning

Anyone with Spiders and four pot front callipers, take your front wheel centre caps out. If you track hard then you'll melt the plastic lugs off. I speak from bitter experience.

Certainly did. They were still in when I got home but one fell out on my garage floor and so I investigated and found both were well knackered. Luckily I had a friend at TVR Engineering who slipped a couple of new ones my way.

For peeps not too sure of fuel facilities near Croft, V-Power available just South of Scotch Corner on the A1 at 98.9 p/litre (about 15mins from the circuit). Lunchtime 98 octane refuel is also available reaonably local.

Good point. My Chimaera uses more than a tank full on a full day sessioned event.
