the traditional dates seem to be November and Feb but there were a couple of evening meets last year. The crapark was always to busy to do a summer weekend meet.

Last time it was mentioned someone was going to investigate a larger, free, venue that they had in mind. Not heard anything further.

How about the Museum car park and side roads at Donington, on a none race day?

Yes, loads of cars could get in there. I went on motogp day and there were hundreds of bikes.

Not too sure how people would find travelling up north though.

Donington is about 3 hours from the South Coast so tbh it would be a bit of a hike.

I was investigating other venues. We're already looking into it for the Tunnel Run, since that now draws almost as many cars as VW!

How about asking Goodwood. The breakfast Club is a success so why not a Pistonheads meet too? £1 or £2 on the gate to a local charity instead of into the pockets of a local council (car park) would be a nice gesture?
Plus it has a tunnel (albeit a short one....)

Goodwood is certainly an option, but it's a considerable distance from VW so might exclude many folk who travel from further north. Also, I think the Breakfast Club kind of trumps VW. If people wanted to gather down at Goodwood they should join in with that, as it's so good.

How about Sandown Racecourse? Possibly find out how much it would cost to rent the strip of grass before the karting track and doing this all properly, Instead of paying £5 to the National Trust its paid to the organisers to cover costs?

We could also rent the karting track as well for fun.

A very good suggestion - maybe combine it with an epic karting event. I'll look into that.

I don't think we can justify squeezing everybody for a fiver to 'cover our costs'. Perhaps a token gesture of a couple of quid per car into a bucket and then the winner (or winning team) of the karting event could nominate a charity?

Everybody pays a fiver to enter the NT car park so I don't see why a fiver couldn't be used to hire & insure an event. Any extra could be given to charity. As for the go kart track we could see if they'll do some 2 hour events that day, one for the morning, one for the afternoon and a bit of free practise (people would have to pay if they wanted to go karting of course - make that direct with the track rather than through PH as a third party - that way there is no liability if we didn't fill the place up with paying customers.).

I for one don't mind being an unpaid Marshal for the day.

either side of the big speed humps are wide areas of grass, with trams line through them where people drive to avoid the speed humps.

i would be very interested to find out how much the whole thing would cost but don't have the authority to make such enquiries.

What about the museum at Gaydon? They seem to have loads of space and let a number of 968 owners in early so we could meet up a couple of years back before the TIPEC meeting.

That was suggested in the past ... not sure if there would be any costs involved from the Museum for marshalling etc.
