Sorrento hotels

Any recommendations for a good hotel in/close to Sorrento. Needs to be:
- Sensible price (150 euros a night tops)
- Clean
- Somewhere to abandon a rental car
- Not too steep a walk from the centre area (although we expect some hill-age)
Also, any hints and tips on car rental companies to use/avoid at Naples and visiting Herculaneum appreciated.
Gracias.

We stay at the Grand Ambiasciatori - bit pricey but central and great deck to bathe from. The parents in law have also stayed at the Royal which is top - have also heard good things about the Michaelangelo!
You will enjoy it.
One thing on the trips, if you book independantly, make sure its one that does the commentary in english as some will do it in all the languages that are on the coach which is a bit of a fag.
One tip, make time to go to the cemetary in Sorrento - sounds gorey but well worth a visit
HH.

Can't recommend what hotel we stayed in I'm afraid, so no use there!
I just wanted to say that the train service round there is excellent, and there is a stop for both Herculaneum and Pompeii. IIRC it was about 1hr train journey from Sorrento round to Naples, and seeing the driving there - holy crap they're psychos!
We didn't hire a car, and didn't need one at all....
It might be nice to drive the amalfi coast road yourself though, as the bus drivers are nutters too!

We stayed in the Grand Royal in Sorrento. Don't remember the price (but not terribly cheap!), but as it was our honeymoon it wasn't too much of an issue. We'd certainly go there again.
Not too sure about parking, but we found we didn't need a car and the excursions we got on left from near the hotel.
