Rob,
I have never chased Steve with a rolling pin. Water pistol, yes, garden hose, yes, but never a rolling pin

jvaughan said: That sounds like an idea, but I would have hoped to be doing more than 100 miles per tank ( I only get that sort of economy at track days !)

I'm just thinking that not all people will be running low at the same point. Better to have plenty and not worry about finding a petrol station when you're desperate.

Cheers,

Steve

May 10th, 11th and 12th Saturday, Sunday and Monday
KENT REGION EN FRANCE!!!!!!!!!
Saturday 10th May
This year will see us return to the wonderful Champagne Region of France. With a slightly different itinerary and a less regimented feel. This year you can either follow our plans our do your own thing, mix and match as the mood takes you! We will all depart from Dover by ferry, travel the quiet back roads (or take the Motorway you choose), to our destination of Reims (pronounced Rahns) via the beautiful village of Arras with its medieval squares in which we will have a lunch stop. Then we shall carry on to Laon, which is our base for the weekend. There we will park in front of the fabulous Cathedral, for a welcome, and a glass of Champagne, from there we will make our way to our hotel (which has its own car park). After check in, the evening will be yours to explore the beautiful old town of Laon and its restaurants and bars. Last year we ended up having our meal all together at the hotel, it is hoped we will do this again but you are free to do as you please.
Sunday 11th May
We will travel to Reims and take in the route touristique de Champagne, some beautiful countryside and good driving roads, Some of you may wish to visit the old Grand Prix pits, again it’s up to you. Then on to Reims town centre to visit the town and Cathedral. In the afternoon there will be a visit to The Automobile Museum and to the champagne house Pommery, for a tour and some tasting!!.
In the evening we will enjoy our group gourmet meal.
Monday 12th May
Depart from hotel for chateau tour. Coucy-le-Chateau is our destination.I have yet to finalise but it may be possible for the more sports oriented of our group for us to have a couple of laps of the folembray circuit. From there we make our way back to Calais via many places of interest Blerancourt (palace gardens), Noyon (Cathedral). Finally back to Calais for some beer and wine (if you still have room after all the Champagne!)

The COST WILL BE £149 per person which includes return ferry, Hotel B&B for 2 x nights and gourmet meal on Sunday night. It does not include entry to museums or the champagne house or lunch or drinks with the Sunday night meal. Please send full amount of £149 per person, cheques only, made payable to Continental Car Tours, to me (Laurence Gibbs) at 2 Flume End Maidstone Kent ME15 6FW, marking the back of the cheque clearly with your name and address and contact number.

Karen again. Having enjoyed a great evening(Wednesday Surrey meet), there are quite a few people who would be interested in a hop across the channel. So far the consensus is for a weekend in July or August with August being the favourite.

Could I please have your thoughts about selecting the weekend of the 16/17/18th of August . This is the weekend before the bank holiday so should be a little quieter/cheaper.

If we book the ferry/tunnel early there are some cracking discounts to be had, so we need to make a decision soon.

We can sort out the exact itinerary at a later date.

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far. Keep them coming.

YES, if it's 16 Aug onwards I should be able to go! I am heading to Sth France that weekend anyway so wouldn't mind the stopover in the Champers region!

Would suggest Le Shuttle as the preferable way to go, straight down to Folkstone and onto the french motorways after 30 min, super efficient!

Definitely up for that weekend. Shuttle would be preferable for me too as I've never been on it!

Bit of an update for regular Surrey Runners. Karen and I met up with Heidi today at the Wotton Hatch. I'm delighted to say she's going to join us all on our jaunt to France. Special thanks to Bob the Planner for giving her a seat in his car for the trip. Might even be the Tuscan by then

Cheers,

Steve

Yes, weekend of August 16th and 17th it is. Since there's not been any objections so far, it must be ok

I'll try workout a plan so those who want a 1 day trip and those who want a 2 day trip can both be accomodated. If this just plain doesn't work then my solution is two trips, one of each format and I'll go on both

Cheers,

Steve

We would love to join the gang for a jaunt to the Continent. An overnight stay would be preferable so we can partake of the regions vast pleasures

Currently no plans for summer hols yet, and quite fancy the idea, but wouldn't you know it, the one time I know I'm busy in August is that weekend..

Be ok, but I'm up north so its a good few hours to get down south to find the channel..

Might still be ok; how soon do we need to book?

Petit Dejuner to one and all (Del Boy Style),

Mrs. T and I have been trying to sort out the details of Le Surrey Run. We've looked for ferry availability for the August dates put forward, prices start at £150 and up. Tunnel was £180!!

The plan is therefore as follows:
Leaving Dover: September 6 on the 07:00 Boat
Returning Calais: September 7 on the 20:30 Boat
Ferry Operator: Sea France
Cost : £99 at the moment with the Super
Apex 5 Day Return

Staying: IBIS Hotel Epernay
Cost : 57 Euros per room per night - bargain!

We need a decision pronto folks. I propose that if there are no major objections to the above, by 5pm Tomorrow (March 7th), then get booking. If there is a problem then we reschedule. You're all responsible for your own bookings, to keep things simple.

See you on the boat, if not sooner.
Merci Beaucoup,

Steve.

P.S. RiverGirrl, don't forget your spurt bag.

Steve,

Any contact details for the hotel, like address/phone no/email to assist with booking ?

Also, any particular ferry company or have I got to do a search ?

Hotel site is: www.ibishotel.com/ibis/. If you enter Epernay in the search space it will take you to the hotel. Looks like you can book online or phone.
