Well done to the Germans for winning the team event and all those that got the high scores bow

Saying that as some of you are regular shooters and have been practicing the past few weeks, the scores were closer than they should have been hehe

I must admit I wouldnt mind this being a regular event as I really enjoyed it, I havent held a gun since I was 15, I had forgotten how much fun it is...!

Enough of your impatience shady tree! I was still at Bisley until yesterday afternoon, training for a little shooting event in Canada next year. Anyone who was out in yesterday's wind will know that it was quite an entertaining day for me, as a wind coach! It was enough to knock shots 20 feet off target at 1000 yards, with wind changes that happened in the space of five seconds being big enough to make a difference of about six feet! So I was a bit busy... could see what was being posted on PH but the Blackberry wouldn't allow me to reply, so here goes...

Thanks for all the kind words guys and well done on some very good performances all round. Quite a lot of the totals were good enough that I am pretty sure they'd have beaten me quite soundly if I had done all the events. Also, thanks for being very good company. I certainly enjoyed myself and so did the instructors and team management. Despite Martin's p1ss-take about all the rubber being laid on camp, they'd be very happy to see any or all of you again.

Well done to the Germans on a good shooting performance, although it has to be said that they were pretty true imitations of the real thing in that they arrived early, took (nearly) all the trophies and then left early rather than hanging around to socialise! Additionally, Alan at the clay range was very keen to point out to the subsequent groups that the Germans had invested about (in his words) £12k more in kit, by way of a shotgun, than the oppo... now, if we were to deduct, say, 100 points per pound spent...

The reason for the Germans leaving before the hoon became apparent as their one remaining representative, a 911, held all but one of the cars up on the mini-hoon! I was the lucky one, being in front of him - it's not often that, after driving mostly bends for two minutes, you have to stop dead in the middle of the road for 15 seconds even before seeing the Porker in your rear-view mirror... he must have been a real frustration to the V8S behind him - sorry for that Mike. Won't invite him again...

Sadly traffic prevented it being as good a razz as one might have hoped. Those of you who were flashing your lights when we turned round to go back past the Deepcut turning and back to the twisties, I was trying to let the Nova get a very big lead so we wouldn't be up his chuff in the corners... but I underestimated how fast we'd catch him.

Next time, I'll draw a map, give out copies and then suggest a RV time after perhaps an hour so we don't have to keep stopping and waiting, and so people can judge for themselves when to take off for an unimpeded run. I hope you could all tell how much fun those roads can be though!

When I say "next time", it sounds like some of you are keen to do it again. We could mix in some different shooting disciplines if we do it again. So let me know:
(i) if you'd like a repeat;
(ii) if a Friday morning is a good time (if not, then suggest what you'd prefer... bear in mind it may be hard to get e.g. clay instructors/range space at the weekend, but we could investigate it if that would help a lot);
(iii) when you'd like to do it (e.g. November vs. March); and
(iv) which events you liked most/least.

Del, let me know about those birth certificates! I'll try and get you, Dan and Dave out with the London boys early next season.

Particularly well done to the following for winning each of the events:

Shotgun - superlightr
Match Rifle - V8D
Black powder pistol - shadytree
Overall - tertius

a Friday morning is also good for me, and would be keen to do skeet and any of the others whatsoever as Im happy just to shoot anything...

Be happy with just shotgun or a mix and or etc or any combination. Like to do more of the rifle shooting if poss ( more rounds)

Many thanks for arranging and making it a friendly and fun morning.

I don't think there are enough of us, and I'd be keen to keep it in the more mainstream forum(s) for now in the hope that we can attract newcomers to the sport. IF we have a shooting specific forum then I think people might be put off or just not look.

Just my £0.02.

We would definitely attract more newcomers if we had a dedicated forum. At the moment there seems to be a couple scattered on General Gassing, one on the TVR forum and one on Pie and Piston. Happy to go with the consensus, but would rather know where to look straight away etc ?

OK well here's my thinking:

1. if there were a dedicated forum all those people with "favourite forums" set who link straight to that (e.g. me) wouldn't see it;

2. a popular thread in P&P or E/M/T (cf the Clayshoot meet thread) will come to the attention of a LOT of people

3. some of those people may be inspired to give it a shot (pun intended )

4. what would we talk about in a dedicated forum anyway? I guess there's a bit of casual meets to arrange and a bit of what gun shall I get, and a bit of here's my new gun but would it really thrive?

Personally I think it would, I think shooting, be it air rifles, clays, Game or even Competition stuff like Cheeky's mob, is getting more and more popular.

I guess I just like my forums all neat and tidy , call me old fashioned

Probably better to let it grow a little first. Nothing kills discussion like an empty forum

I NEVER go in the P&P.

Then again, I wouldn't have made a "Shooting" forum one of my favourites if I didn't already shoot.
