Now that would be a rather apt place to hold a gathering of petrolheads

Just noted that Legoland carpark is normally a free parking park and ride scheme for Windsor.

Splendid idea - they have fields and fields of parking... I remember when Rally GB came there in the early 90's and there had to be at least a 1,000 spectators cars?

Probably be tough to avoid the inevitable plague of yellow-jacketed jobsworths telling you where to park though!

The team at Beaulieu are very helpful when it comes to events like this. They've gone above and beyond for us in the past. The only issue is location... it's a lot further south than VW.

how about back to VW, but just get there earlier, we arrived 9.30 with a few others, lovely and empty, surely we know now that if its after 11am and its a nice day, parking and getting in will be tight!!

perhaps we can suss out who the car parky man is, and help him with 10 cars leave, 10 cars in??? don't think thats too complicated. i think its nice for joe public to admire the motors, not many car shows where they get to see so much variety, what do you reckon?? also what date then if its VW feb time???

Problem with VW is that even though it's a great venue, at the end of the day it's a public car park in a 'beauty spot'. At the risk of a total flaming, can you imagine if you were Joe Public in a diesel MPV and planned a nice local day out with the kids one Sunday to VW and you turned up to find 150+ sports cars, nowhere to park and total chaos outside on the road... Let's face it the days of a quiet meet, chat and pub lunch with 30-40 cars as it was back in 2004/5 are never gonna happen again!

I'll admit though that if that happened to me, my kids and I would be over the moon, park wherever up the road and walk back to drool over the cars... thumbup

We've also outgrown VW and I suspect that many would be put off by the thought of being turned away if the car park was full.

Beaulieu is open to the public and the space I'm imagining we would use would act as a gallery space (an external exhibit) for the public. But is it too far south to appeal to everybody?

I'd be happy to go to Beaulieu.
I assume you mean the motor museum car park, and presumably the proprietors would need to give permission for the use of their car park first?

idea

OK if Beaulieu is too far South, how about: Blenheim Palace?

Would also be easier for Midlands based PH'rs to get too... 8 miles North East of Oxford.

Looking at the website they already host the <cough cough cough> Caravan Club Rally <cough cough cough>. And there's no major external events planned until May... In the 'closed' season they charge £3 for access to the park only, so I'm sure a negotiated rate can be had for the use of a car park?

Cant find a link here from work, but the Bridgewater memorial in Asheridge park, at the back of Berkhamstead in Herts has a about a mile long drive, is free and has some great roads surrounding it.
Just an idea.....

I do think VW has possibly been outgrown, and wpuld hate to see the atmosphere spolit by jobsworths.

A return to VW would clearly be a nightmare, wasn't them some discussion of a nearby Toyota HQ car park?....or did I imagine that?

Stupid one perhaps... But what about the aerodrome that Top Gear uses?

As long as TG don't blatantly turn it into a TG opportunity... They want our cars for a feature they can pay us!

Dunsfold Park is owned by a joint venture between The Rutland Group and The Royal Bank of Scotland, not Top Gear. Plus its a right pain to get to.

Or there is the old MOD tank factory place in Chobham, which has its own test track.

The Chobham facility is expensive and likely to be very hot on insurance and H&S etc.

By test track, do you mean the M3?

yes

Shame we can't use the car park outside Surrey Rolling Road - it's on the same site after all. Very close to VW.
