What about one of the race courses, Windsor or Ascot perhaps? They have large car parks.

Problem with VW is that even though it's a great venue, at the end of the day it's a public car park in a 'beauty spot'. At the risk of a total flaming, can you imagine if you were Joe Public in a diesel MPV and planned a nice local day out with the kids one Sunday to VW and you turned up to find 150+ sports cars, nowhere to park and total chaos outside on the road... Let's face it the days of a quiet meet, chat and pub lunch with 30-40 cars as it was back in 2004/5 are never gonna happen again!

I'll admit though that if that happened to me, my kids and I would be over the moon, park wherever up the road and walk back to drool over the cars... thumbup

National Trust didn't seem to mind last year, and supplied staff to run the gates iirc. Kids didn't mind for exactly the reason you mention, hmm walk around the park, or looking at exoctica in the car park. No contest

The problem is size of car park. 250 places probably isn't enough.

I would love to investigate getting the event properly insured at another venue to be honest. Why not put the entry fee towards the cost of running the meet itself, and make the people who turn up put an extra fiver in for a charity.

How about the Science Museum in Wroughton, near Swindon? They are not open every weekend, but have plenty of space, and they might let people use the runway if asked nicely? This year's open days are not on their website yet.

Is there any chance of using the airfield aswell do you think? That would be ideal for me as I only live 2 mins away!

That's a pretty good idea.

Any of them have a pub or catering available? That's one of the attractions of VW - you can get a cuppa or lunch etc.

Windsor has a Beefeater/Berni type place just outside but most of the parking is on grass, Ascot again is mainly grass parking but has lots of pubs/eateries on the High St. Am trying to think of a big enough Railway Station car park locally, as on a Sunday I would guess they would be near on empty.

Sandown, by the go karting track has a huge area.

A few pubs nearby on the Green.

It's well placed, but I don't think even Sandown is big enough to hold us now?

The area I'm thinking of is quite large. (Not the car park btw, the bit in the middle by the go kart track in the middle in front of the stands.)

The only problem is that you'd be on grass, and it would need a degree of policing to stop people tearing up the ground, which would probably mean a warmer month than February.

I see. I assumed you meant the tarmac area, which clearly isn't big enough. Not sure about parking on grass though - could get messy with such a high level of traffic flow?

How about:

Polo Grounds (Guards Polo Club) at the back of Verginia Water..
They quite often hold car events and it's blumin massive. RR owners club use it as well as one of the TVR regions.

Alternatively the AMOC use the parklands at the back of Hampton Court?

Or the Ascot Racecourse parking (or one of the overflows - they are huge)

There is always the road Transport Research Facility in Crowthorne where the Pistonheads car control days are held....

Wentworth Golf Club has plenty of space along it's roads around the club..

They are all in the existing area of the meet....

If you have less than about 100 cars (maybe a few more) then the Guards Polo Club would be your best bet. If you time it to coencide with a league Polo Match (rather than an invitational) then you get to watch the polo as well. I'd give the club a call the details are on their web site www.guardspoloclub.com/the-club/index.html

As for the others a little google'ing should find the details you are after. Hampton Court would be a second choice as the others are a little more "functional" rather than "astehtic" if you know what I mean.

That's a very good suggestion. Museum attractions and walking areas (like VW) to extend the day, restaurants & cafés and hopefully enough parking to satisfy us. Good location not too far from VW too.

Brooklands could be considered, but the chances are it would be a lot more regulated than we're used to.

We're talking florescent jackets, etc

How about a race circuit car park on a non-event weekend; even if there is a trackday taking place, the car parks will be nigh empty?

Perhaps a little less likely but I wonder even if there is somewhere in the City of London that'd be useable on a Sunday - the City is pretty much dead to traffic on the weekend.
