I run a Fury as track day tool, and regularly go to Brunts under the umbrella of "sylva test days", who are basically piggybacking a few days onto other less well attended days at Brunts.

Following a request email for 07 dates, i have just recieved the following email:
email said:
We are sad to announce we shall not be running any track days for you this year. Our Bruntingthorpe home in recent years has suffered from severe noise issues with the local council and has had to pull the plug on our type of events. Unfortunately this problem is prevalent on the track day scene at the moment.

Thank you for your support over the years, we have enjoyed many memorable and relaxed days with you in Leicestershire. We shall, of course, let you know if the position changes.

Like many others to be sure, I work ludicrous hours, provide quite a bit of employment and generally more than pay my way. Indeed, it does my very health few favours.

Why do I do it? Simple: to put a f@cking Schlumpf ensemble together that might sate one overwhelming passion: The Schnell.

If one is unable to do this in legitimate, legal safety then I will take it to the roads with venemous abandon.

I hope to my core this is untrue because if it is, life in the UK for me will have tipped over the edge of acceptability, ambition itself bred out of the general psyche.

As an addditional to the above, I have to have this almost makes me want to weep.Is this the thin end of the wedge for the speed enthusiast ? What do e have to do to fight back ?

I am well and truly isck and tired of the minority dictating what is right and whats is wrong these days.

Unless I am being ultra sensitive.........

let's not panic just yet, I had a conversation yesterday which I left given the impression that this was far from the case, just needs a little more time.

I spoke with Matt (the son of the owner of Brunters) at length about the problem. It boils down to the $odding NIMBY's who live around bruntingthorpe. They are liars and hugely exaggerate the noise problem (of which there is little). For instance one time they said on a certain saturday there was totally unacceptable noise from the airfield- racing cars or what not. Matts father keeps a record of everyone and everything that drives on the strip, and his records showed the only machinery on the runway were HGV's....

It boils the pi$$ somewhat eh?

But Matt and his dad are fighting tooth and nail

And theres always a place for a Pher in munich

best,
adam

No. Aircraft can make as much noise as they like as it's an established airfield. NIMBYs can however complain about the cars even if they are quieter than the aircraft or not even there! You couldn't make it up (although the NIMBYs can obviously).

It would be a disaster if this commie scum forced us to change our currently sensible and legal approach to high speed driving.

yikes If the NIMBYS were really bothered about noise this is the first thing they should be going after. I would imagine that a few days a month of internal combustion noises would be like a fly buzzing about in comparason to a full afterburn fast taxi. Last time I saw them I had tinitus for 3 days afterwards and I had my fingers in my ears when they set off.

Fingers crossed this doesn't end up spoiling everyones fun....

thin end?

I think they're doing their best to shove the thick end in. un-lubed and with aggression.

Perhaps some sort of Sunday driveby of dozens of TVR's, cars with exhausts that small children can crawl up etc is required around the roads of Bruntingthorpe.

Keep doing it every Sunday for a month in perfect legality until they let Bruntingthorpe open the doors again.

Not a bad idea Stephen, although after the first couple they might just get some police out (to at the very least make life awkward even if people's cars proved to be 'legal'), so would be better to then change the day or leave it a few weeks...a bit of unpredictability would make things a lot harder for anyone to stop, and would increase the dissatisfaction of the locals.

Although from another perspective, in light of the recent 'Tunnel runners' bad press, further anti-sports-car press would be bad news for all of us...

No you are being realistic and have summed it up nicely.

Indeed, the country is now being run for the satisfaction of minority viewpoints. Unfortunately being an anti has now become a hobby for people and banning things is their one and only aim.

Where they can't ban us I am sure the government will soon dream up a 'green tax' that you'll have to pay if you want to do trackdays! rage
