Carbon Black is a good option, im not sure of the entry fee, but it will be no expense spared when it comes to quality parties and service, during the week each entry has their own female crew member on call to assist with anything from getting the beers on ice to sorting you out with some spare clothes. i think they also have a mechanic crew too!
Nods has taken in everything from his gumball exp and returned a great alternative. worth a look IMO.

yeah, Nods doesn't muck about, he's got a support team that will go above and beyond the norm to make the event memorable.

I did CBRE in '04 when we all got arrested in Spain and although it could have been better organised it was the trip of a lifetime.

I am still friends with a lot of the cannonballers.

I have been to a Carbon Black party and from what I have seen the event is excellent.

I would certainly do cannonball again if time/circumstances/finances allowed.

Spain and France are no go areas since Gumball 04, the good rallies will avoid these area because of that, CB are heading to eastern europe, i think that will be great especially if they visit the Brno circuit

I'm going to thrash the car first off but I don't get see real women for two months at a time so tottie is my 2nd priority.

As it stands The Cannonball Europe Run is the only one that I can attend due to me being away. The Carbon Black one does look good though.

Who does security for these events? I know of one ex-Regt guy who did the Gumball once. Knowing how that industry works I guess it's a closed shop. It would've been perfect if I got on the Security team for an event after having attended one as a driver. Best of both worlds.

I did the first 4 Cannonball Run Europes & last year for various reasons decided to try the Furball5000.

The Cannonball is a hyped event, a sort of competition, however if you go too fast you loose ?? & involves a lot of Motorway thrashing. The pre event publicity guarantees plod know you are coming. Publicity, people getting nicked & the odd crash all helps sell the DVD & TV rights & give revenue to the organisers. Never the less a great event to have done.

The Furball is not competetive but the roads are far more challenging & will really test you as a driver, cars tend to split into groups & you can have "private competitions" should you choose. Anyone can thrash a car down a motorway at silly speeds but we had sections last year where I struggled to get out of second it was so twistie.

If you like motorway thrashing & sitting in the pub talking about so called race do the Cannonball, It makes you sound a rebel we all secretly want to be.
If you are a real car enthusiast, love driving on challenging roads events like the Furball might just be what your looking for.

The great thing about Gumball & Cannonball is that they led the way for others to organise many different events & there is now something for everyone whatever your car or budget if you look hard enough.

If you really want to go hardcore but cant afford the Gumball this might be worth looking into www.greatamericanrun.com/

Whatever event you choose it will be the people on the event that will make it for you, as for me Im afraid its the Furball again this year, I just love challenging roads & by staying off the motorways you dont get tooooooooo much hassle from the authorities. They also hold regular meets throughout the year so by the time you go on a run you will already of met a few of your fellow "competitors"

Either way do some runs before the Burocrats & their ever enlarging arsenal of electronics stop them for good

That's a great reply, Thanks. I'd like to do both the Cannonball and the Furball ryns as both seem like different events. I've always wanted to do the Alps etc in Summer like the Furball.

If I can persuade my mate, and my Lotus can handle it, I might just do both. The dates even work out too.

Did the Cannonball run europe 2005, loved it. Price wise I thought it was a bit expensive, but in the end I put it down to the fact that I was taking part in a famous 'brand names event'.
Even now have said to non car people I took part in it, and they know the event I mean.
I thought it was well organised, with some nice hotels and roads. (ALOT of motorway tho in one week.. would have been nice to see mountains ect.!)
Was in the TVR with 'Dave 500' if anybody else on here?!

2005, that would be Sweden etc, IMO of the first 4 cannonballs this was the best. I cant put a face to your name, I was lurking around in the lightly tweaked Skoda which you might have spotted

There are lots of cheaper options available, I am a moderator on a certain Honda site and I organise the Honda Euro Tour,(Strictly none profit making, (its a joint tour of 4 different Honda forums) This year will be our 3rd year. We have 25 cars attending with 50 people. The routes we take are some of the best roads in Europe. I spend months planning the routes and take in most of the best cols and passes, Furka, St Bernard (great little), Col du Turini, Stelvio, route napoleon, verdon gorge, san bernadino-pass, Mont Cenis,Passo del bernina, Monaco, Zugspitz, grossglocknerstasse, garmisch Partenkirchen, Nurburgring, Reims, each day is no more than 8 hours driving, and we have a rest day in Nice.

We try to avoid motorways and travel in small groups of no more than 4-5 cars to avoid police attention, The routes are all pre-planned and shared in Autoroute which we download into our sat navs with the conversion programme this gives us door to door directions to the hotels. The hotels we stay in are minimum 3-4 stars in fact one of them this year is a 5 star.I find the hotels then my passenger who works for a travel company books them because he gets better discount than I can, plus we are covered by a ABTA registered company. The people on the tour pay directly to the travel company so I don't have the responsibility of handling large amounts of money plus it gives everybody more security and they can pay by CC or debit cards.

This years total costs are £54 per car for the ferry return, £311 per person accomodation for 7 nights half board. plus £18 swiss vignette tax.(Total of £350 per person based on two sharing) on top of that there is fuel, vignette in Austria for 3 day pass.

This years tour is all booked up and paid for except the final accomodation payment. I can't wait.
We don't have page 3 beauties at the start and finish points but we have just as good a time,The people on the tour are aged from 20-60 male and female and from all over the UK you could say a very diverse group but everybody always gets on even though most people don't know each other. its not a race so we can start/stop when we want, take photo's enjoy the scenary, etc.

I just can't get my head around the amount of money some of these car tours charge. But if its a business they are there to make money, I am not, I do it because I enjoy it.

Yes, this run is completely different to the Cannonball Run Europe, No glamour, no girls, no supercars. Each to their own
