Dawn Raid latest

Faaaaaantastic! as Murray used to say
What a great run out. Well done Nonny!
Those who stayed in bed missed a great run over spectacular scenery.
The chance to delve into a TVRs innards (to no avail!) This was interesting on two counts.
1] to see that a part of a TVRs day out kit is the
workshop manual (but not a map)
2 that the contents of the aforementioned manual
have absolutely no meaning to anyone with a TVR
(fuse mate? search me)
Also to see Oggs Chimera shoot sparks like in the F1 Turbo era over a paricularly interesting bump.
Burriana tested the impact bumpers on the Porky (thing in the middle is the handbrake not a spare umbrella!)
The run through the tunnel was made interesting as it appears that everyone failed to realise that they still had their shades on
Not to mention the general level of incontinence from the previous evening but this may have been a contributory factor
Come on Nonny we all want Dawn Raid II
(pics to follow when I find the download lead for the Brownie

Here we are chaps, video to follow later this afternoon.
All in all a FANTASTIC day, i've never had to work the FTO so bleeding hard to keep up with you lot... poor thing rarely got out of 2nd gear!!
If you want hi-res photos then give me a shout, i made sure they were on MAX quality so originals are nearly A2 paper size @ 300dpi!
What do you think of the photos then?
Hope we didn't slow you down too much

Nice pictures, glad to see there's a couple of mine without the bonnet up.... Just to show I did the first 21 miles....
If its any consolation, the contents of the manual had absolutely no meaning to the man from the RAC either.... Thanks to all those that tried though
Oh well, better luck next time... Who was it that said TVRs were reliable ???

was i right? ignition?
and i'd also say the coil, or connections too it, as the dizzy cap has no effect on the tacho. for the needle to just drop it has to be 1/ electronic, 2/ coil.
am i right
yours truely, friends RAC man to be (not).
ALSO! STOP PRESS: this run has convinced me that i want a TVR, so i shall be looking into funding a used Tuscan, flip paint, and sub £25k
A big thanks Nonny - like I said, the best run out I have been on
4 hours serious hooning, across 4 counties and some spectacular scenery. From moor top open roads, to twisted little tree lined lanes running alongside streams, over hump back bridges, second gear, round the hairpin, up the other side, third gear, 6000 revs, brake, drop down, into second, round another hairpin, put the back end a little, up again, 6000 revs, into third, into fourth slight right, over crest, into loooong undulating straight.... get the idea?
oh, and not forgetting... drop down, 90 left, tunnel... 8ft wide, 10ft high, 250 yards long!
And I now know what all the fuss about the Cat & Fiddle is
Definitely on for the next one if it doesn't clash with anything, and we should be adle to get another 3 or 4 cars from the usual Yorkshire suspects next time.
Having said that, I think 9 cars is about the optimal number... we were lucky yesterday that we had you as lead car Nonny, without that I would almost certainly missed a turning somewhere

Well my Dawn raid was just under 500 miles , 2 tanks of optimax and ended up with panda eyes.
A big to the cab driver for taking us to the pub, and the views where....
The curry wasn't that good tho
Good to meet everyone and cheers NN for the route and That Tunnel
Can't wait to see that clip
And hopefully I can make the next one

Well just one would have been better than the three we did miss
With regards to the tunnel, from the sounds of it I think I was the only one who lifted, the car starting squirming all over the shop & only had the thing a couple of week and still a bit weary.
Other good bits were scaring other half senseless when car kept 'catching' at front. Good job it was going in anyway for front end sorting after a slight fight with a kerb.
Other quite scarry bits would be two cars cutting out at quite high speeds (luckily on straight bits), and one deciding to disengage its own handbrake.
Nice to meet you all (sorry had to shoot off after). I assume you all stayed for a beer & a bit to eat ?

Was this before or after you said "dead easy to drive"
Glad you could make it down Mark. Unfortunately this was a pretty poor showing from a northern perspective, we usually have at least another couple of T350s along plus Tuscans and Cerbs, but weddings, holidays and the like took their toll.
Hope Kelly wasn't too bored. Oh, and the handbrake seems to be a common failing when applied after a warm drive, that's why i usually leave it off and in gear... not much use when you stop for a quick minute on a hill and leave the engine running! Luckily Davrian got hs foot to it in time
Hi Everyone,
Well it all seemed to go very well, on the whole. I think it became clear why its worth making the effort to get out there early. For the first couple of hours we had the roads totally to ourselves. What a gorgeous sunny morning we had.
As ever things seemed to take longer than planned, and we didn't get back to the Cat & Fiddle 'til 11am. That worked out quite well though, 'cos that is when it opens. I thought it was great sitting in the sunshine, watching all the bikers, walkers, mountain bikers, etc. There were vintage cars calling in too, obviously on a rally of their own. First vintage car up there was a pre-war Fraser-Nash, crewed by two young girls. Sexy or what?
The C&F does nice bacon and egg baps, too.
It was a shame we lost a car. Hope you get everything sorted out, Steve. Oggs's Tiv had a paddy later on. I think it objected when it was called upon to shower the cars behind in sparks. So it decided to stop, and didn't start again untill Oggs had spoken nicely to it and apologised. After that it behaved itself. Whilst Oggs was on his knees begging his car to start, Burriana's Griff decided that the Porker's rump was just so sexy it decided to give it a kiss, whilst no-one was looking.
I should also point out that the Porsche and FTO behaved impeccably, as far as I'm aware.
As ever, improvements can be made. I have a second route, not quite finished, still working on it. The next route will have more A road and less unclassified roads. The TVR's do touch bottom a bit when the roads start undulating a lot. Normally A-roads are a no-no 'cos of traffic, but there just wasn't any at that time. I'll also get rid of the sneaky back road bit to the Cat & Fiddle road, next time we'll just leg it to the traffic lights in Macc and go for it from the very start.
I realise that I must put a coffee/toilet stop in. It's not that easy at such an early hour, but I'm sure we passed 2 establishments that looked open. They definitely weren't back in December, but I must say, the area is so different between winter and summer- it's like a differnt country. I'll get that sorted though, if we do it again.
The Travelodge is quite a good choice IMO 'cos it's out of town, so you don't get too many pi**eads passing by on the way back from the pub, and the carpark is behind the Little Chef so the cars aren't too obviously displayed when parked overnight.
There is a Post House Hotel on the other side of the peaks, however, on the west side of Sheffield. Anyone live that way, what's the carpark there like, is it secure? The Post House would have its own restaurant, and perhaps a bar, so that might be worth looking at in the future perhaps. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. And anyway, we found a good bar in Hazel Grove. Such sights to see.
So, anyone like to suggest a date? August, maybe?
Lastly, pictures. That webalbum that fto has used looks good, made one myself now, but what's the best way to post it on the 'net? The 'tunnel clip' is good too, but it's 5 megs. That makes it possibly too big to e-mail, so what's the best way to either send it to someone (I've never found Winzip much use) or can I post it somewhere and place a link on this thread? If so, how? And can I just say that I'm fairly PC illiterate, so explanation will need to be step by step.
Next lastly, Thanks to you guys for coming out to play. I enjoyed your company on the night out, and enjoyed meeting new people the next day and having good chats about Le Mans and road rallying etc. A good Pistonheads day out.

August is out for me I'm afraid.
There's the griff growl on 1st
In Spain 8th & 15th
Dales Run 22 (which will take the Yorks crew out again)
And I'm away 29th (Bank Holiday w/e)
September's looking empty as far as events go... er apart from the last week of course
But if everyone else wants August then go for it.
Best bet for coffee/butty stop would be a trucker's cafe/caravan - they'd be open early.
Please can you email me the sound file of the tunnel.

I rang Al when he was on his way back - was well stoked!
Sorry I couldnt make it - would love to have, so the next is a must in my calendar - just need to avoid all the other things were doing - please consult PH and TVRCC calendars
We could bring 4 or so more cars
Cheers

Don't listen to the voices (or non as the case may be!)
The formula is spot on for those who are going. If you read the threads about runs and then compare the bragging about what they will do and then compare them with those who 'suddenly found that they had something else to do' (ie the bride found out!) you will see that most events are supported by a small minority.
Do it for those who want to drive. Less numbers will cause less potential problems. If the route is good and I'm sure it is (and its not possible to work it out after a bottle of Merlot)we can do it again (and again). In the evening, in the Autumn, even in the winter for those who enjoy driving as opposed to tapping keyboards, gardening detail or B&Qing!
Don't lose heart now fer Gawds sake!!!!!
All I need to know is the start time and if fto2tuscan is going in convoy up the M6

See! The wise old Bunny knows best!
Just do what you want and let those that want to join in do so.
Time to tell them that the Dawn Raid Club is by invitation only and the Committe will need to vet potential applicants (He! He! only joking guys)
Seriously, well done Nonny and lets get a date for the next one now!
If you don't know where you're going any road will do!
