We are having a TVR meet next Sunday near Bedford, but we have been asked if it's OK to come in another type of car. Suggestions on what is acceptable and not acceptable in TVR company please?

Surely anyone turning up to a TVR meet will either:

a) be in a TVR
b) be interested* in the TVRs?

In the case of b) who cares if they want to turn up on a tandem or in a Nova?

*I mean "genuinely" interested and for all positive reasons, obviously.

Well I have turned up to a TVR meet in my Nova before now. Quite a few of our member at the local TVR CC turn up in other makes when they are 'inbetween TVRs'

I think if you just restrict it to TVR owners...the meet might be just you

...perhaps a couple of others might turn up

However you're missing out on the diversity of car ownership that is the PH collective.
...and there's a lot to alienate.

no offense intended or anything mate, but as one of the non-TVR owners who wish to turn up i don't think it would be right to "restrict" yourself to TVR's only...

first off, i don't remember it being a "TVR only meet" this may just be my poor memory but it doesn't say so in the title... i looked at the thread as most meets close to bedfordshire are Cambridge, Ace Cafe, leighton buzzard etc... so i was excited about an actually BEDS PH MEET!!!

second, i aspire to a TVR, hopefully a Cerbera 4.5 or Tuscan S but at the moment at 20 i don't think it'll be within the next few years... in fact i only know (well, kinda) one sub-20 year old TVR driver and thats BattyS4C!!!

so i would like to come along and oggle at your TVR's!!! and hopefully offer something interesting in return... its no supercar but when did you last see a car like mine?

and finally, surely you're really after a meet in a pub where a bunch of like minded individuals meet to chat about like minded subjects... be it if they turn up in a Cavalier, MX5, Nova, Chimera or 911...?

Oooo, great post and very contentious. I have always erred on the side that if its a car enthusiast with a liking for TVR's then the more the merrier. My neighbour has just spent 17 yes 17 years restoring a GT6 and I wanted him to bring it to a Tiv meet. The response I must say was not positive. The same goes for a local Caterham owner. But, this weekend we had a TT and nobody said a word. I reckon we should welcome other marques but draw the line somewhere. Not sure where!

And another...

People attend TVR meets, not cars.

Whilst I do love my car, I find it a bit short on conversation (except on deceleration, when it has quite a lot to say for itself, particularly to the car behind )

Simple answer:

If it's a TVRCC meet then anyone who's a member is welcome regardless of what vehicular obscenity they choose as their conveyance.

If it's a PH meet then anyone who's registered is welcome regardless of what vehicular obscenity they choose as their conveyance.

If it's neither then it's up to you, but the more the merrier I'd say. You could always arrange "TVR parking" and "other parking" if you want the Tivs together. You try it in model order . Now where did I get that idea.

We invite all marques to our meets and regularly see porkers, westfields/caterhams and even an RS2000[mk 1]. We all have the same passion, WOMEN AND BEER!...zz

We may have to differ on one of those, and it's not beer

Perhaps the problem is that the proposed meet was moved to the general area of

events/meetings/travel

which incorpates everything....instead of just TVRs.

this thread is also in the main forum...as mentioned above...which only seems to cause even more friction.
Because it seems to be a bit offensive.

I turn up at the various PH meets in my faithfull Volvo Diesel Estate ... sure, I tuck it a little out of the way but I love TVRs and like to go to the local (and not so local) PistonHeads/TVR meets because of the *PEOPLE* that go to them.

I think V8_archie has it right, depends on whether its a TVRCC or PH meet.

If its a PH meet then doesnt matter what car or membership etc.

If its a TVR meet then car doesnt matter but people should be members or people interested in joining and wanting to see what its all about.
I think that part of our TVRCC membership fees must be for these meets and if more non members than members start turning up to TVRCC meets then the club may start losing more of its subscribing members.

Don't think you should restrict it at all - you only had 5 or 6 interested and if only some of them have TVR's ...

Seriously - many people catch the bug by attending meetings and I'm always more than happy to show people my car and if they are really brave they can come for a ride .. Bassfiend can testify to this.. my car is green and so was he afterwards

I suppose it cant be restricted really because you cant exactly tell people to leave a public car park/pub!

I havent been to a TVR meet in a TVR yet!
unless you count Donnington
