Probably not one of the worst but I'll bet there's not many louder than the 2.0 Perkins Diesel they used to put in the Maestro.

Oi , fantastic engine for its time. Won a Queens award for technology. One of the first true High Speed Direct Injection diesels. Phenominally good fuel economy. Twin spring injectors for pilot injection to reduce main injection ignition delay and therefore (ahem!) reduce noise (well it was the 80's).

They generally long outlast the cars they're put in. Supposed to be quite good for transplanting into series Land Rovers.

Tough as old boots, mind you they were always going to outlast a Montego or Maestro
