can any one advise me on my 4.3 griffith starter problems, i turned the key and there was a puff of smoke,and now the selenoid wont even click in,also some one told me a SHERPA van will fit? any help please.

Where was the smoke from? Might be a wiring fault. Does the starter work if you connect a wire / screwdriver from its main feed terminal to the control terminal?

Typical on TVRs the starter can fail after a period of time due to the typical TVR under bonnet temperatures. And all other standard starter problems apply because of age and/or low usage (4.3 must be about 10 years old now....).

thanks all replies,as you said Rob it is an age related problem the date on the starter label said 06/92 which i guess was the original,it had siezed solid
I have fitted a starter from an old Range Rover and it now works ok ,the date on the new old one says 02/88 but it works well thanks again. Chris

Brand new Prestolite only £50 at Paddock in Matlock. Mines v good, and several others have used that model successfully.
