the car went wrong again today !!!!
took ages to get started again.........
however it runs again now

what recommendation, do you make for next likely thing to swap
my wife thinks its the imbilizer - anyway to short out the imobilizer.

After suffering non-starting on my daughter's Clio 172 for 2months - and blaming coil and immobilizer - FINALLY traced it to crankshaft timing sensor - simple!!

i have a feeling it may be something to do with the immobilzer

My wife could not start it
I went over - pushed the accelerator down a few times
clicked the imobilser a few times
then keeping my foot on the accelerator and it started ...

well I think changing the Battery worked - we had it at a garage for a day and they had it all hooked up on test gear and no change.
We went on holiday for 2 weeks and when we got back the bateery was flat - the RAC tested and said get a new battery, which I did from halfords and the cars started better then has for a long long while

the strange thing is when it wouldnt start - i could hear the starter motor turning over so thought the battery was alright
its the 3rd battery we have had in the car
the first one lasted 2 years and replaced around 1998
so maybe clios are iffy with batts

If it's the newer models with the aerial at the back the key won't need to reprogamming for the immobiliser when the battery has died. The central locking should still work depending how long the battery has been dead, if it does need resyncing this can be done by yourself though.

well, we think after a few years we have at last got the thing fixed

The flywheel sensor was replaced last week - and it is now a different car, just in time to sell it
