Mondeo TDCI Flywheel
Discussion
Too many threads on the web so I thought I'd ask the PH brain trust as I frequent this board more than any other.
With brand names like Valeo & LUK offering single plate flywheel conversions should I worry about any imbalance in the crank assembly if I decide to go this route in place of the standard DMF?

There is a thread literally a few lines under yours on exactly the same subject;

It's a subject which divides opinion for sure...

I am new to the forum but not new to the world of automotive engineering. I have worked up to the level of RND, design & manufacturing and automotive electronics & software. The point I am making, if an engine is designed, manufactured and tested with a dual mass flywheel, you should NEVER use a single mass flywheel as a replacement. I could go into the mathematics side of things and bore you to death so just take my word for it.
Iwould have thought that the dmf was designed to be used with the engine not the other way round ,like many modern developments it has not turned out to be the cure all that people think ,expensive and in terms of life limited aswell as being a pain in the a-se but I'm old school and will be probably told I don't understand !

Dont do it , in so cases the nose of the crank snaps off due to the wrong harmonics at various
engine speeds.
Ive just done my 2003 Passat 130 Tdi and yes i used a LUK kit , that was near on £400 to me trade !!!
You do know that engine was designed to run a solid flywheel?engine speeds.
