grease or no grease?

If grease any old grease or special grease?

I only ask cos today I noticed in Halfrauds a dielectric property grease specialy for battery terminals. I always used to put normal grease on the terminals to stop moisture. was this a bad thing?

I just give a little squirt of spray grease every so often, nothing special, and as far as i know thats all the garages do when you take your car in for a service
Cant see special grease is going to do a better job of repeling moisture!

I've always used copaslip for battery terminals and it seems to do the trick.

"Dielectric" means "insulating". All grease is insulating, and all grease is water-repellent. Axle grease will do just as well. You can confirm this by working out the price per gram of axle grease and the Halfords funny stuff

Petroleom jelly as used on babies bums is the stuff to use.
I understand it is conductive but am prepared to be shot down.

Would be very surprised if petroleum jelly is conductive but have no evidence to the contrary!

I understood that the rationale for using copaslip is that it DOES contain a good conductor, so once compressed into a thin layer when you nip up the terminals onto the battery posts it does not interfere with the passage of current.

Now it'll be my turn to get shot down I guess...
