Hi all.
This is a long shot but my mate has a 1999 VW Golf 1.4 petrol. I recenty helped him replace hid dead battery and now the alarm is just going nuts (lights flashing and horn sounding). Thing is the engine still runs so the immobiliser hasn't kicked in.
My mate has phoned the garage it was originally bought from and they've been no use whatsover.

Anyone know a reset sequence for the alarms on these cars.
BTW: We haven't nicked the car )

Any help much appreciated.

*BUMP*

Any advice, however trivial, would be appreciated please. My mate is off the road until we get this sorted out.

Thanks.

Hello. Probably not the problem but I had a similar problem with my car.

It went mental one night and I ended up disconnecting the battery to shut it up. After taking half the dash out looking for problems it turns out that the back up battery in the alarm sieren has shat itself and was in literally 2 pieces. This meant the alarm think it was tampered with and kept setting itself off. So, removed the alarm sieren and battery and now it's fine. Fixed the problem until i replaced the battery at which point i replaced the sieren too.

Hope this helps, although I suspect it probably won't (sorry if it doesn't!).

If I were you I'd forget the main dealer and go to someone who knows what he's talking about. There must be a car alarm specialist near you - they normally know these things inside out having had to sort them out in order to fit a decent after-market affair.

Good luck
