Old BMW- red brake fluid
Discussion
Odd. I noticed the other day that the brake fluid in the reservoir is red. The brake fluid that came out when I disconnected the rear brake hoses was the correct piss colour.
I didn't investigate any further, but I'd just assumed that BMW made special red fluid for some reason- seems like the kind of thing they'd do what with their unusually blue coolant.
Now I'm thinking that some moron has topped it up with ATF and I, also a moron, have failed to ever replace the fluid in my just over three year ownership (I'm usually pretty keen with brake fluid changes)

It could be ATF.
Brake fluid is almost always yellow-ish. There were some minor exceptions like ATE Super Blue, but the US of A has been complaining that it breaks their rules of car brake fluid HAS to be yellow/golden, so Superblue is no more.
BMW certainly wouldn't be making a red one.
