Hello folks, I have a 2010 Vauxhall insignia 2.0 CDTI with an automatic gearbox and need a steer... It has 62k on it and drives the very best except for the gearbox being a little bit temperamental. The first time it happened I had been sitting in traffic and a gap appeared I accelerated hard from standstill in 1st into 2nd and halfway through the range it revved as if it had a neutral, I took my foot of the throttle, reapplied it and it went the best..... It done it again in 3rd gear a week later same scenario. I got the gearbox oil changed and apparently the oil was black (not good) It then went 100% for about 6 weeks under all conditions and I put 2.5k on the car, thought I was cured and now it's back... It has also revved up to the redline in 1st without changing and can occasionally change gear with a bit of a thump. 97.8% of the time it's brilliant just now and then it's a bit iffy. Now, if it was a mechanical fault surely it wouldn't be intermittent? I don't know but I'm hoping someone on here does. Apparently it had a gearbox software update from Vauxhall before I got it and I've checked with Vauxhall who advised there's no updates outstanding. Is the software modifiable by tuners etc? To me it seems like it's in sports mode all the time (there is only one mode and a manual shift up and down).

I hope someone can help......! Should I prepare for the worst 😕

You say you have had the oil changed, did they also change the filter at the same time?

I cannot say 100% that it was, I would assume it was the garage that changed it are very meticulous.. I have found an automatic gearbox specialist locally and will get it booked in. Would an unchanged filter cause that amount of hassle?

I dont know much about the Insignia but Im pretty sure there are problems with auto boxes in various VXs caused by control module faults.

Bit of a late reply to this thread but the AF40 'box doesn't have a filter. Usually when it starts to miss the gearchanges or thump between them it's the valve body needing replaced.

Changing the fluid is the first thing to do if it slips, sometimes it can be the cure - other times it needs the valvebody done as well.

That gearbox is used in many cars, usually with good reliability. My Volvo S80 has the same. If the problem is consistent - usually bumping into gears and slipping too much when accelerating then it's the valve block or the oil level is incorrect - it has to be set when the engine is cold. Yours is intermittent so probably the control module.

Would be interested to know what you did about it ?

My 11 Insignia CDTI 160 a/t started displaying a problem a day after the rad was changed, Lost drive on a curve, then warning light 30mins later with ATF leak under rad. Diagnosed as split washer or something 'simple', forgotten during rad change. Next day light came on again and limped back to dealer in 3rd, wouldn't change up past 3rd. 'Reprogrammed'/'Known fault' was diagnoses. 2 weeks on same problem , limped to dealer so waiting.......frown
