Duratec 2.3/2.5 250hp
Discussion
Hi everybody,
companies such as Burton Power, Omex, Raceline, Cosworth claim to be able to put together highly tuned version of the Ford Duratec 2.3 and 2.5 litres with power outputs from 260/280/300hp.
These are expensive engines (>12k£) with highly modified internals.
There seems to be little history and comments about that top-spec range of products and I would like to get some information regarding their expected reliability.
Given that I have the impression that most of those product are only on the catalogue but almost never built I'm wondering if the can be reliable or prone to explode at a certain mileage.
What I do know that the Duratec 2.0 263hp that Caterham put into their R500 suffers from reliability issues: a friend of mine visited a Caterham workshop with several engine-out R500s waiting for their sub 20k miles engine to be rebuilt.
That's scary...

Mines been going well, made 270 but expecting a bit more with improved cam timing.
It was built for sprint Competition and did a couple of seasons before I got it and ran it all last summer
Looking for a good summer this year too.
Spec in my PH garage. Though it's not a specific package, but a Heinz mix of all of them.

It says 300bhp in your profile, what CC? It was built for sprint Competition and did a couple of seasons before I got it and ran it all last summer

Wrote that before i finished the rebuild.
It made 270 with standard valves and a "low port" ported head. Changed it to high port big valves and made 270! However, the cam timing was out so I've changed that and next step is longer trumpets. Was still making power at the red line so looking to shift the curve left and have more power available within my shift range.
Just took it out today, it's a lairy beast!

Can you post up a dyno sheet, or HP and torque graph?Wrote that before i finished the rebuild.
