Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a manual gearbox that is able to take the power of a powerful modern V8? or am I just being too hopeful?

Thanks,

Your question is too vague to answer - if you have a torque figure in mind, you may get some suggestions to handle that.

Sorry, looking for a manual that can cope with an F-Type V8. I'm looking at ones that are damaged that I can take the engine out of but none of them are manual.

700Nm is quite a bit for a manual box. Assuming budget is sensible (i.e. you don't want to buy a Ricardo transaxle), I'd guess a custom bell housing and a Chevy box (the LS9 runs a supercharged V8 with more power) would be a good choice.

Chevrolet's crate engine/gearbox catalogue is a great read for that kind of thing.

Nothing difficult about finding a box...

But are there any constraints ? What usage ? what vehicle weight ? does size matter ? Budget ? Number of gears ? Obviously you're going to need a custom bellhousing or adaptor etc

Presumably it's for a front engine, with box bolted to engine ? As opposed to say a transaxle type ?

Fast road usage, possibly on track too, but would prefer it to be usable over distance too. fairly lightweight car, want to keep size down if possible as it will be a tight fit. 6 speed. It is for a front engined car yes. Just looking for options.

Then something OEM, whether BMW, Nissan, Toyota. Your biggest issue will be mating it to the engine as both will be uncommon.

Any T56 variant, Magnum etc etc are all huge, bulky and very heavy. Probably not an ideal solution for a lightweight car, or where space is tight.

The Nissan 350z boxes are popular for some conversions, and BMW have a pretty good range of boxes.

But unless there is a specific reason to use the Jag engine...life might be easier using an engine where adaptor kits for various boxes already exist.

This place in the US make a lot of adaptor kits and many for the CD009 350z box to give you an idea.

There isn't a specific use for it being that engine except its what I've set my heart on a little and what feels right for the car. Still, I've got plenty of options here that I can have a look at smile
