Rover V8 Distributor Dilema /TR7
Discussion
Apologies if this has been answered in threads elsewhere
I have just removed a broken SD1 V8 engine from my TR7
I have replaced it with a reconditioned earlier spec engine and thought I could replace some of the ancillaries, particularly the Distributor, which on the removed engine is a 35DE, This has 3wires that come out the dizzy that ultimately terminate into a block connector that plugs into a large balast resistor at the front of the engine bay
I have today discovered that swapping the distributor is not possible. The one in the recon engine however only has one wire emerging from the side. (35D)
How do i wire this up to the block connector?
Any help much appreciated...

Isn't the 35D8 a mechanical points distributor? If so you'll have a single wire which grounds the coil -ve; the ignition (and ballasted supply if you use one) would go to coil +ve.
Unless you know it has been rebuilt I'd be inclined to treat this as a pretty dodgy proposition because it'll have various rubber parts in it which could be problematic by now.
If it is a points distributor you should think about fitting electronic ignition. It'll make it more reliable and much easier to start.

A 35DE8 with a three way connector block will likely have the Lucas "Opus" (usually pronounced "hopeless") electronic ignition system integrated into the distributor. One of the terminals in the three way connector goes to the coil, this is the one that would have to be connected to a points distributor. The other two terminals are +12v and ground.
A points distributor is a backwards step though, especially on a V8.
