A moron driving could destroy a clutch in 18 miles nevermind 18000.So impossible to say.
But should a normal competent driver have a clutch like that ? no....they should be able to make a clutch last 100...200..300..400k depending on the application and driving style etc
Dark pic, but one from my van after around 300,000miles, clutch barely worn at all, just the stupid DMF got so bad I had to pull it apart.

In the mid 70s I worked for a motor factor. We supplied a Triumph Spitfire clutch kit to a garage. The following week the clutch came back as a warranty issue with the driven plate in bits. Sent back to the manufacturer & a new one sent out to the garage.
A couple of weeks later the new clutch we had sent out came back with the driven plate in similar condition but with the puzzle solved. One of the garage's mechanics had seen the car being driven & had had a word with a couple of the driver's friends. Appears she was in the habit of showing off by trying to squeal the tyres from a standing start. The original clutch had worn sufficiently to slip. The new ones didn't & suffered accordingly.
The garage told her that she would be charged for any subsequent clutch failures & that was the end of it.

I know the lad who's car this is, he doesn't abuse it, and when this happened we had been cruising along motorway for2 hours
If he's in the habit of resting his foot on the clutch pedal, it might be fretting without him realising it. Edited by GreenV8S on Tuesday 27th June 17:19

There is no way ever that could occur driving along a motorway for 2 hours, or indeed 2,000 hours. In fact, the picture just seems to show some damaged friction material, even at 10x worse the car would have still happily cruised along that motorway without the driver knowing.
So there is clearly more background to this, or more info needed.
Is he the owner from new & the main or sole driver?
My wife has always had the habit of resting her foot on the clutch pedal - despite being told times about it - & managed to do a 205 clutch in less than 12 months - I can't recall the miles as it was some years ago but it was only local runarounds. The driven plate wasn't too bad but the release bearing had worn through the fingers & grenaded.

Yes it did drive along ok, it was when we stopped for fuel he noticed the clutch smelling and vibration. In fact, the picture just seems to show some damaged friction material, even at 10x worse the car would have still happily cruised along that motorway without the driver knowing.

We had drove from Leicestershire to Cornwall, 95% of that journey is top gear cruising.
