Some fascinating info on the threads here but I'm afraid my question is a LOT more basic.

I am trying to source a 4-2-1 manifold for a cvh engine, the engine has a well worked head so I'm trying to find something that would accommodate port matching , my problem is the whole ford N/A tuning scene seems to have died a death, and it's difficult to find any who are left that get good reviews across the board.

So does anyone know of exhaust manifold manufacturers [small or large] that can still do the business??

Thx.

There are exhaust makers all over the country....

Contact one, take car there...get exhaust made, job done.

Buy some books on tuning an NA or specifically the CVH and take the dimensions from that to your chosen manifold fabricator.

The XR3i manifold was actually a decent 4:2:1 design, ran one on my old (very extensively modified) CVH (dyno'd at circa 130bhp flywheel), as its cast you can port match with an anti-reversion lip (if running a bigger cam) which will work better than a port matched or oversize tubular. You need to use the 3i downpipe which has shorter secondaries than the non i item.

Thanks, those lengths are considerably shorter than the tubular manifold thst is fitted just now, can't quite see how far "out" it would sit from the block..
Yeah I think a lot of people have forgotten with these engines it's all matters of small percentages to gain a lot overall.
What was your old cvh set up then?

Have you tried Ian Howell. I know that he is mostly known for turbo installations but he may be able to help.

If you are in East Anglia, there's a company called "Demand Engineering" near Stowmarket. They do custom exhausts and bespoke manifolds with a lifetime guarantee to either blueprints or on the car itself.

East Anglia.

Interesting twist, I actually drove the thing up to Scotland from Sylva when they were at Manby, lincs.

I'm about to drive back down to east anglia for work!!

will look at those names and see whats up.

I had looked at an ashley AFM 30 3i competition tubular but I have no knowledge of their quality or performance...

Thanks for the help

Starting at the intake......
XR3 airbox with modified intake snorkel with cold air pickup, K&N filter, Sierra 2.0 carb (same model as XR3 but bigger throttles) equipped with ram pipes, choke was removed from the secondary. I used an XR2 (pre 86) inlet manifold, the adaptor plate was machined out to suite the larger carb, the plenum was machined out to increase volume and it was ported and matched to the head, the manifold heating had a restrictor fitted to reduce the heating. Head was fully ported by myself using Dave Walkers old Fast car article, 3 angle seats and valves. Cam was a Kent cams CVH22. Block was decked to increase the compression ratio. Distributor was swapped for a Rover K-series (yes it’s a direct swap) from a 1.4 8v carb which gives more advance lower in the Rev range (helpful when fitting a bigger cam) but same total advance. Exhaust was the 3i manifold and down pipe, ported at entry with an anti reversion lip, followed by a 2” exhaust with dual straight throughs.

If the head has been worked but not much has been done to the bottom end why not talk to Ian about the ZVH? Graft a 2.0l Zetec bottom end onto a CVH head. Gearbox bolts up the same, the inlet and exhaust as still the same but you get a capacity hike.

Only really works N/A with the post 86 ‘lean burn’ head, you can’t get a decent compression ratio with the earlier full hemi head.

Unfortunately Puma is banned, and even the mere mention of his name can cause volcanic eruptions through PH admin team who have a vendetta against one of the best technical contributors to the...well technical section !

That isnt to say there arent others who might respond in time
