hello
Does anyone know a good company that can rebuild a bosch starter and alternator? they were both working last time I started the car in december but Ive removed the engine to rebuild it and access is easy so would rather have them serviced/refurbished now than have them fail in a few months as the car (a porsche 928) was previously parked for 15 years

If you can rebuild an engine you will find that reconditioning a starter and alternator is easy work
Post some images of what you have and I or someone else will step by step the job for you if you wish

They rebuilt my Bosch Alternator and Starter Motor about 18 months ago. Both showed their age (almost 40 years old) but came back looking like new.

I'll try to post up some pictures later - it was some transformation.

I’ll be very happy if mine look that nice. How much did it cost if I may ask?

Good luck with the rebuild, what are you rebuilding? Have you found 928.org.uk? Lots of 928 help and advice via the mail list.

I think £150-£200 a piece but I'll check this evening.

That's much money if the company isn't using top notch parts, a Bosch regulator has the Bosch brand name on it similar to below, if the company isn't using the best regulator there is every chance that they have also fitted cheap bearings
There aren't so many places doing top notch work these days and this is why I often recommend that people should carry out their own repairs/rebuilds
As far as I know, Bosch still supply regulators

As working previously working for a motor factor. Universal are highly regarded. I only ever seen 1 warranty through them and that was user error when fitting.

Thou if your in the Se give michale a call in maidstone Sc motors and he will have a good crack at trying to get a new one. As providing your old units it mart work out cheaper with the old core surcharges.

I don't know why you'd want to rebuild these just because the car has been parked up. It's mileage not age that usually wears them out.

Thanks for the prices! To answer other questions it’s not just the age the car has done 110k miles so bearings on the alternator are probably due for replacement, and as I said would rather get it all done while the engine is on my workbench! It’s an 85 S2 which I prefer to the later ones as they retain the classic look but with more power than the earlier ones. I am registered with 928.org although I find rennlist to be the best source for info.
