Alternatives to diamond cut finish
Discussion
I've noticed that the diamond cut finish on my alloys is just starting to corrode in a couple of places. They've been previously refurbished by AM, and I know there's a limit to the number of times they can be skimmed.
The whole diamond cut concept winds me up tbh as a form over fucntion - they never last! I've got diamond cut on my daily driver (Mk7 Golf GTI) too, and had to get them all replaced under warranty.
Presumably the dual colour look can only be achieved by painting them and then cutting the front, rather than by a sparyer/powdercoater. Mine are graphite grey 10 spoke diamond cut.....has anyone given in and just had theirs powdercoated in silver? If so, do you think this notably detracts from the aesthetic?

Ive had issues with diamond cut on 2 cars now and just painted them eventually.
My Roadster came with them 2 years/25k miles ago, thankfully unkerbed so far, but when they do eventually need a refurb im going 2 tone paint or powder coat to give a similar effect, shiny and grey inside
Ah, I didnt realise the same two tone effect could be achieved with an all-painted finish....that's good to know. I havent kerbed mine but there's a couple of bits just starting from the edge at the interface between the graphite paint and the diamond cut.My Roadster came with them 2 years/25k miles ago, thankfully unkerbed so far, but when they do eventually need a refurb im going 2 tone paint or powder coat to give a similar effect, shiny and grey inside
Two tone diamond cuts don’t sit well with me, TBH. Collecting my second V8V from AM Bristol tomorrow and they’ve already acid stripped them and spayed them graphite (mid grey). They sent me a photo yesterday al look great, plus any future blemishes should be easier to correct.
Not sure how much this would cost on its own.

I think they would look awesome in black-chrome finish. This is a 2 tone silver with dark black accents as used on many mainstream cars today. Here is an example...

That link directed to a load of pics - which ones are dark chrome? I like a fairly OE look, which is why I was thinking of just getting them done in silver.http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/portfolio/speci...
Edited to add: worked out which ones were by hovering over the pics. Looking at a few pics online it might be a good call, 8Tech. Anyone got any pics of this on their Aston?

Yep! Sure would!http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/portfolio/speci...
I curbed one of my front 5 spoke dt alloys a couple of weeks ago. The nearest fixing place said it was unfixable. A mate in Sheffield who owns a bodyshop reckons it is fixable. Either way, I am now considering having all the wheels painted, not sure what yet but two tone sounds like a plan. At least with painted wheels you can simply touch up any small chips and not be potentially into £1500 for a replacement if you happen to curb a wheel a couple of times.
Have the same wheels on my 2010 car and was looking at similar finishes rather than diamond cut again as I have some white worm on the backs and ttted one of the fronts.
I decided on a shadow chrome type finish as I think it will suit my Quantum car, just not got round to getting it booked in.
I recall there was a V12 in the Pistonheads parking at Beaulieu that had a similar colour if anyone has any pictures.

Happy to be a bit out of step here but I love the way mine looks on both sets of its black diamond cut wheels. And they're standing up very well condition wise too. Could it be that they don't like acidic wheel cleaners which never go anywhere near mine.
Wow, didn't know you could get powder coated wheels to look so shiny, I always though powder coating gave you a dull finish. Could you paint the edges a darker colour to give the 2 tone effect. Either way they look great.divetheworld said:
Powder coat chrome looks little like chrome to be honest. That's a good thing if you're not into bling.
These are a chrome-like powder coat colour with clear powder coat to finish.

Converted to painted mid grey - and vast improvement from diamond cut, IMHO. Posted over at https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
