I'm not very knowledgeable on diesels, I have an intermittent issue with the vacuum pressure on the brakes on my Passat B5.5 and I've taken the pipes off the tandem pump.

There is oil leaking out of the outlet that goes to the brake servo. I can't find any Google hits on whether this is meant to be or not? I thought this being a vacuum system should have air in it not oil? Does this mean the pump has failed? Or is there meant to be oil coming out this side? This pipe leads into the brake servo (the fuel lines are the other side)

Any help appreciated, thanks!

Maybe not related to your issue, but could be, B5 (and 5.5) Passats suffered from blocked drain plugs in the Plenum that hold the servo. Therefore water can get into the servo and rusts it from the inside. This results in a intermittent hard brake pedal.

Yes I bought it with a flooded plenum 2 years ago. I'm hoping it's not the servo and hoping it's actually the tandem pump

There should be no oil coming out of the pump
