If the no charge warning lamp comes on there is probably a problem with the charging system.

What does that mean?

I guess you mean it's using more diesel than normal. How much more?

It seems pretty likely that the fault code is related to the running problems so that is worth investigating. Also, how old is the fuel filter? A clogged filter can cause load related problems.

HHi thanks for reply the alternator had new rectifier and is chucking out about 14.6 volts but when I took small wire off the connection snapped so replaced connector but might not have proper connection , plus on fuel side the computer says it was doing 37.8 mpg on a twenty miles run , but don't know what judder was ? The fuel filter was replaced about 3500 miles ago

Hi been out in car on drive of about 20 miles then came back same distance and computer said 36.9 mpg and when engine is at temp the guage was reading between 80- 85 degrees never goes up to 90 degrees and just wondered if this sounds ok , as I have been reading and seeing that people are getting over 40 mpg on same sort of runs

It is cold & it is a diesel, I wouldn't worry about having a slightly heavier foot than someone else, even having heating, lights, and stereo on can make a couple of mpg difference.

So, let me get this right.

You have just paid for a diagnosis & now you want another one, he said it wasn't working.

It sounds to me like you are looking for problems that don't exist.

Hi no I'm not iv got to know car and I just had diagnostics done to see if it came up with anything , I'm just seeing what the best way is to test egr anyway went out to car this morning and started it and battery light stayed on so switched it off and restarted and battery light stayed off think the wire for light on alternator is loose

When you switch the electrics on with the engine stopped, the no charge warning lamp should come on. When the engine is running, it should go out. Some cars need the revs to be increased above idle before the lamp will go out.

If the lamp doesn't come on at all, there's a good chance the alternator isn't charging.

If the lamp comes on and stays on, there's a good chance the alternator isn't charging.

From what you have said it sounds like you changed the alternator because you read a fault code, not because it wasn't charging???

H when the battery light first came on I tested alternator and was only chucking out 13.0 volts put lights on and still the same so took it off and took to auto electric place and they said it was rectifier so they put new one on and put it back on car and started it and battery light was on so switched it off and then started it and it was off so took it to auto electrician and it was charging 14.6 volts but in mornings the battery light comes when first started but when you restart it the light goes out and it will stay out every time you start it

Hi reference my battery light coming on it is strange as the past week it hasn't come on? But I'm going to clean egr and throttle body for the fuel usage problem and if so get a proper egr valve for it

Hi tested egr valve on op-com today at idle the pos command was 100% and pulse rotation was at4% so took it for drive and while under load the pos command was erratic going up and down but if took foot of throttle it went back to 100% and the pulse rotation stayed at 4% all the time is this ok thanks
