Fiat Ducato 2007 2.2 Diesel Turbo 86k - Diesel Blow By!
Discussion
Hi guys,
I found a good deal on a 2007 Fiat Ducato 86k and wanted to buy asap. All was working great with decent service history. however when performing a blow by test (taking the engine cap off when running engine on idle) it was producing a fair amount of smoke..No smoke coming out of exhaust at all.
Is this normal or way to much to be healthy? Could it indicate failure of injectors, valves?
In terms of oil it had an oil leak but not excessive on the MOT, (this oil was at top around injectors so they could be leaking?). The current owner had topped up the oil level last week so it was actually over the max limit by cm, but that could indicate a slow oil leak or possible burning? although there was no blue smoke or exhaust smoke and the van ran really well.
Video links attached.
any Help would be greatly appreciated!

That isn't good Blow by is cylinder pressure passing the pistons or in this case a piston hence the chuffing !!
It could also be combustion gasses pressurising the sump due to the head gasket failing ,
The no no for me is chuffing if you just have a steady small amount of mist that can suggest a little wear but that the engine is basically going to be ok for a good few more miles yet ... and may be even just the oil is dirty or diluted and when run with clean new oil the symptom goes .. looks like one to avoid IMHO unless its dirt cheap !!
