Firstly its an ALFA just like the badge on the front, it really winds me up with ALPHA
Yup Twin Spark is definitely not safe and 99% sure the flat 4s aren't safe either.
If unsure about a belt on the TSpark then get it done, broken belts cost big money.

Confirmation that the flat 4 is an interference engine. And that the spelling is indeed ALFA.

Sorry for the speeeling fopar.
Workmate came in and said his belt had gone and wanted to know what the damage would be hence the question.
So bad news for him then.
Thanks

The cam belt on my 2.0 L 16V twin spark GTV went. There was some contact but no major damage.

£1000 bill to get it fixed was about the same as most garage bills for that car

The probelm is that the belt is due to be changed at about 70-90k (i can't remeber exactly) but the tensioner is what fails and takes the belt out. Apparently this is a known problem.

My advise.... change the tensioner well before the belt is due.

For the TS engine, Alfa's original advice was 72k but this has now been revised to 36k

Report back from the mechanic is....
No teeth on the belt.
All bar 2 inlet valves bent.
3 exhaust valves bent.
Most of the spark plugs damaged. (Don’t know how that works).
No other damage to head or pistons apart from the inevitable bruises.
£800.

Thanks for the help guys.
