While I agree in part, his expertise is in the software side of this or installing kits such as Weistec superchargers. As I have said, he has never done this conversion before, and I expect it is probably the first turbo swap on the M278, CL platform in the UK or maybe world. I contacted over major competitors before going to MSL and they never bothered to get back to me...

That doesn't inspire much confidence. If he's charging you to calibrate custom engine installations I'd like to think he has some practical experience of modifying vehicles - or at least knows somebody with practical experience. If he doesn't have any experience of this type of thing and doesn't know anyone with practical experience and you don't have any yourself, I suggest you look for a different expert. Can he at least give you his recommended pressure and flow specs for the new pump?

^ That would be simple if you had a HP target.

As others have suggested a simple comment like "your fuel pump isn't up to it" isn't really what I would call sufficient an answer form a supposedly respected tuner in his trade.

I am assuming that your turbo swap is to get more HP and therefore gives more boost?

Your standard fuel pump can produce sufficient pressure to satisfy standard boost plus fuel rail regulator pressure at sufficient flow for your injectors.

The new turbo (I assume) produces more boost pressure & thus needs a higher fuel supply pressure to achieve the same.

The new boost could well also need greater injector flow rates to allow sufficient fuel in for correct/safe combustion.

As you have been told it could also need a higher fuel flow/pressure to achieve correct/safe combustion.

What you need is for someone to present you with all of the above information rather than a simple statement so maybe either we don't have the full story, he has only told you part of it, or even he is just making an assumption, but either way you need to get more information

I may have missed it but were the injectors also upgraded?
Again the data logs should have shown if the injectors were maxed out..
