Hi all,

Stupid question, but what is the name of this part on the intake manifold of an L200 2.5 TD, between the elbow and the manifold.

I've got what sounds like a boost leak, and there's signs of oil getting pushed out of this part.

Thank you

Does the L200 have an air shut-off valve perhaps?

I think you're pointing to the throttle body valve assembly.

That's it thank you. I thought being a diesel it would have a different name. Confused me a bit as there is no linkage other than vacuum.

How is the oil getting in to it? There shouldn't normally be any significant amount of oil in the intake, and I wouldn't expect this assembly to be oil fed. If your turbo is leaking oil into the intake, that's a potentially serious problem.

I'm not sure yet to be honest. There isn't a lot, kind of a coating inside the pipes which I'd assumed is 16+ years of build up. It's coming out of the throttle body where the the pivot goes through from the vacuum to the butterfly.

I did worry about the turbo as the whistle seems louder after this boost leak has developed. Pulled the intake off and can't feel any play in the shaft.

It uses vacuum to inform an actuator I believe. So all it needs is 12v power and a vacuum hose.
I'm not sure which L200 you have, but this looks similar to your situation.

A smear of oil from the turbo is normal after it's got a few miles under its belt. I wouldn't worry too much.

montyjohn - it's actually a 2004 shogun sport, but that's basically an L200 in a frock. The diagram looks correct.

This is what it looks like when opened up:

Thinking about the amount of noise it's making I think this could be a bit of a red herring.

The noise is a loud whoosh but when I lift off it sounds like a dump valve!

Just blanked the egr to rule that out.

It's really hard to tell what's going on by the video.
A combination of tiny microphone and tinny speakers at my end all I can really do is suggest more things to check.

Would you say it's down on power?

It sounds like it might be over-boosting. Could the wastegate be seized? Can you move the rod?

If it feels sluggish I'd be checking leaks on the inter-cooler side. Can be a pain to find. Ever wanted a home made smoke machine?
I don't think it would be a leak on the intake side of the turbo. I doubt it could as loud as you say it is but if you can get a smoke test done you'll pick this up also.

Another possibility, remove the intake hose form the turbo and see if the blades wobble or not. Should spin freely and firm.

Sorry, just throwing ideas around really.

Long delayed update.

I blanked the egr.
I replaced the throttle body.
I've had the intake pipes and intercooler off numerous times.
I checked the turbo, no play.

I admitted defeat and took it to a garage.
There is no boost leak. The exhaust was split in several places. I could hear the waste gate. £290 later and it's eerily quiet!

Moral of the story. Don't jump to conclusions when diagnosing problems. Also, have a good look around when under a car!

Only just seen this, glad you've got it fixed. I watched the video and was going to say it sounds like when a TDI has a de-cat because it makes a weird owl type noise!

As it turns out it does have a decat too!
