Transmission loss
Discussion
When calculating transmission losses are they different for each gear. You would think if more teeth have to mesh the loss would be grater . Wondering if that has any bearing on setting optimum gear change points. If for example 1st has more loss than 2nd it may alter the optimum change point.
I expect rolling road operators would know, and this is only a guess. I wouldn't expect gear losses to change noticeably since they will be engaging one tooth at a time in any case. However, I would expect tyre losses to increase substantially in the lower gears since the contact patch will deflect more under higher forces and that represents wasted power.
