Hi folks,
Yesterday our 2019 L200 developed an odd noise. The car has about 20k miles on the clock and has had a very gentle life.
It is a lease car so no major panic but I curious as to what the issue is. I suspect it is turbo related but I'll defer to the experts on here.
The noise is really more of a high high pitched rattle - a little like a lose heat shield, but that's not it. At first I thought it was some sort of harmonic vibration from a lose bolt or screw, but I'm not convinced of this now.
Interestingly it only occurs are a VERY specific RPM, and only when building revs slowly rather than when hard under power or when the revs are falling. Above this RPM level the noise goes away.
It happens a fraction above 1500 rpm - say around 1520, and is gone before it reaches 1550. It really only seems to be a very exact rpm and not across even a small range.
It occurs in every gear but not in neutral - i.e only when there is a power demand. ( I have not tried it in reverse!).
Also happens in both the 2wd or 4wd setting.
Does the L200 turbo kick in at 1500 rpm by any chance? I'm wondering if it is a turbo bearing or something. The car drives as before, no vibration and no loss of power - but every time the revs hit 1520 under gentle throttle there it is.
Also, does this sound like a "don't drive the car" noise, or a more of a "it will be fine for a while" noise. Obviously I'll take the car to the dealer but can't do that for a few days.
Thoughts appreciated.

Bad for balance shafts. Oil pickup pipe sits very close to the bottom of the sump. Draws air & causes issues.
Sure the code is 4N15
Are you sure, as I thought that showed itself as a rattle at idle and was more prominent on the 4N14 2.2, whereas the series 5 L200s are 2.4 units.Sure the code is 4N15
Yea Fixed mine. was a heatshield NOT FAILED but 3/4 of it split right up against the jubilee clip.
At front circa where it bends from coming down from engine there was a heat shield that had partly failed Tiny little thing and i had to look really close to see part of it had sheered right on the clip, one extra clip and it was fine, it had not totall sheered through. fixed it when i did an oil change was bloody frustrating noise for 3 weeks.

How was access to get the clip on? I’d have to do mine in my drive
Easy peasy... The exhaust runs down the drivers side of the car. You need to either completely remove the undertray, or just enough of it to give you access. It's held on by 6 or 8 13mm bolts. They were fairly corroded on my truck, so go easy and perhaps spray them up before you tackle it.The pipe location you need is roughly under the drivers seat.

Thanks, I’ll have a look when the rain stops! The pipe location you need is roughly under the drivers seat.
Same noise here, same characteristics at 1500 rpm auto box. My heat shield had a tiny split in it at the lower clamp site - hardly noticeable. I can see many garages missing this fault as said in this post .
Followed the advise and place a 60-70 jubilee as pictured by another user. Test drove noise gone!! Thankyou to all posters and contributors. I have very basic skills and did this on my drive with a basic socket set under 20mins .
Grateful to all 👍👍👍👍👍
