Does anyone know the actual weight of an LS1/6 I did see someone saying it was 30lbs more than 215V8 (Rover motor) someone else said 130lbs.
Im confused this is an all alloy engine we are talking about and Im sure a crank rods flywheel and camshaft cant weigh that much more. Does anyone know more ???

I think is supposed to be 30lbs more than the rover (at 160Kg fully dressed) which would make it 174Kg which isn't too bad for a 5.7Ltr engine I don't know if that is fully dressed tho (clutch, alternator etc).

That is about right for a fully dressed motor, obviously it will vary a little depending on choice of sump and other ancillaries.

What are you thinking of doing with it?

Hello again.
I am hoping to put it in Rover to replace my tuned 4.6 with a nice understressed LS6 giving 400/400 I hope. probably much to much power for rear wheel drive but sounds exciting.

Sounds like a project! I was debating Ford 4.6 mustang conversion, but maybe the 5.7 is the way to go. I understand this will also conect to the B/W gearbox.
One of my co workers has just bought a corvette, so I do some measuring and see where bits match or not

For LS1 info, engines and parts in the UK then you should have a look at www.chevroletls1.com the web site of a good bloke name of Mike Johnson who is based south of Nottingham. He used to specialise in tuned and turbo'd Rover V8's, ands still has lots of fancy parts for these, special cranks, turbo manifolds etc. For the last couple of years he has been invlolved with the Chevrolet LS1 in its various forms and has a workshop full of parts, complete engines and various special tuning parts.
Well worth a look and a chat. If his prices seem a bit higher than the prices you see on US web sites like Sallee Chevrolet etc, it should be born in mind theirs are crate engines minus lots of quite expensive ancillaries
I have no financial connection with him, BTW

Just slipping in a lS1/LS6 in a machine not designed for it is no easy matter. My friend and his son are in the process of putting a V8 and six speed trans in a 91 toyota supra. They pulled the engine and trans from a slightly dented Camaro z/28. It runs but has not been driven yet. Little things like converting the connection for the clutch master cylinder, toyota to chev, can cause severe frustration. I would never question anyones mechanical abilities, but a rover to chev conversion. Why?

Because in stock form, apples to apples comparison the LS1 is a vastly superior engine and it will fit without any major difficulty and will accept an auto or 6 speed gearbox. Here we strive for a 350 bhp Rover and it costs loads, plus reliability is compromised. The Chevy Ls1 has it already well before the tuning has been started.
