Has anyone had megasquirt fitted to a cosworth YB turbo engine? I have found that chipping original ecu's to be a bit hit and miss. But the thought of testing the engine and getting the fueling wrong against boost could bring me a £2k bill.

Omex and webber systems seem to be rather expensive, just thought megasquirt had all the same features and more. Could have ignition retart for anti lag/launch control, water injection, intercooler mister, shift lights etc etc.

I know it can be done and its a big subject...but who's actually managed to 'sort it'

i don't think that the megasquirt has anything in the way of boost control as yet, although I may be wrong on this, I think it can compensate for mainfold pressure but not run a wastegate. Have you considered Emerald? Their boost control system works very well and typically a 4 cylinder system costs about 500 quid

Ive actually been looking at alternatives myself recently for a friend. These so called stg3 chips etc really arent up to scratch at all IMO. the one I fitted to a friends car with T34, RS500 IC, -31, 3bar/803's etc the fuelling is terrible, bordering on dangerous.

The only plug n play options that I am aware of are GEMS, and probably Motec with a wiring adaptor.

I was also told the MS wont do boost control. That isnt a concern for me. I always prefer to fit an electronic boost controller. Easy to use, and offer very good boost control via the cockpit. All this crap with Cossies running air injectors to control boost is so ancient, when for 99% of cases it isnt even needed.

If you want to wire it up yourself, there are so many options, from Megasquirt/Microsquirt, VEMS at the cheaper end of the scale, with various other very expensive units such as Autronic.

In the middle there are ones like DTA, Emerald, Omex, Haltech, Gotech, Tec3

Personally I think the Autronic is horrendously expensive especially for a wire in unit, although then again, so is a Motec, but I'd be pretty sure you can simply plug the Motec in and use it if you desire for similar money, rather than having to make a loom yourself.

perhaps these guys make looms ??? old weblink Ive had for ages.

There are of course many other options with different pricing.

But there is another option if you can wait until April. A guy called Simon, who is over on the PassionFord forum makes an ecu.
It has been available previously, but there is a hold up at present, or he is busy.
Old website, although it doesnt mention the ecu much.

new website, nothing there as its under construction

His username is SECS over on www.passionford.com

I have a download of a demo of the software for the ecu. It is fully plug and play, he tells me it can drive high or low impedance injectors, and for the money, it sounds like a bargain. Not quite as cheap as a Megasquirt type setup, not it is cheaper than any other ecu available, and its plu n play.

Send me your email address and I'll email the software and the price he told me. Failing that, ask him yourself.
