Hi there,

to make a long story short. My 4.3l is dead, and the new 4.6l with all modifications (275 HP on the Dyno) is on it´s way to death again (Oel pressure down - bearings).
I want to get ridd of the rover engine. Does anyone knows for sure if the LS1 + six speed T56 transmission fitts into the Griffith. The major problem I see is that the LS1 is a bit wider. The exaust manifold will be the major challenge I think.

Can anyone help?

Jochen, Hi Happy New Year to you, it's Mike. As you know I think it will fit but if you email me to request any exact measurements I will measure up an engine for you as accurately as possible. After that it's up to you or somebody else to take the plunge as nobody else has done this yet. Somebody has to be first!! Regards, Mike.

I'd love to see someone do this. Anyone have any idea on the relative sizes/weights of an LS1 vs TVR Speed 6 engine, or AJP8 for that matter?

Craig, I am trying to get it done somehow. I have measured what I can at Joospeed and reckon it can be achieved. It would help keep costs down if the T5 is retained and Real Steel do a bell housing for T5 to Chevy v8 but it biases the stick to the left. I don't think thats really a problem as I fitted a t56 into my TR7 also with an LS1 engine and found the stick position is ok. I can fabricate a new bell if needed. I think the original TVR exhausts may be retained as well as the whole driveline. People are uncertain of costs and weights etc. An LS1 engine weighs around 400lbs as far as I am aware which isn't very much more then a Rover v8 in 4.6 guise. I reckon a full and thorough conversion could be done for around 7k with an upper maximum of 10k using the t5 box or maybe even the T56 which I also think will fit having measured up PaulU's car. It all depends on final specs and unexpected fabrications etc. A new LS1 T56 is pretty expensive and different to early T56's. One thing that isn't in doubt is the performance of the LS1. I can't wait to get my own car back on the road and when my new workshop is done I may do a conversion for someone else. I am in Nottingham and have LS1 parts/engines. If there is a car nearby that is damaged or a wreck then it could be used as a donar and I could take care of any retrofit fabrication that may be required. My website is in my profile and it has LS1 information on it. Is there an engineless wreck near me or something past it's best? If so I could start the installation now! I wouldn't want to attempt this on someones pride and joy but something past it's best would be ideal for such a project and I'm keen to get it on!

I'm not aware of the Jaguar AJV8 s/c having major durability issues...
perhaps you thought I meant AJP V8...
