How much can a standard auto gearbox take?

I have a Honda 2.7l V6 and auto box, out of a rover 827, that I will be using in a much heavier vehicle. My original thought was that if I was going to tow a 1500+kg trailer with my 2000+kg van, the box probably wouldn't like it. What do you guys think?

might be worth looking at a trans cooler! they can get very hot when towing .

Ok, that was the plan anyway as the engine will be in the back. I was more worried about the stresses on the components...

Not that it should be a problem as I'll have the front engine and box to help tow heavy loads
