Ok then looking at the taz racer i think a different engine is required.

It currently has a 2.8 ford v6, you know the crap 2 port heads.. If i stay with the 2.8 it really needs a complete manifold/exhaust system making which is probably about 2k... so if i build that i need to stick with the 2.8 so i need to make a decsion on engines first.

the two first options are 2.9 v6 or 2.9 v6 cossy, both of which will fit and can give around 200bhp...

Ideally i'd like somthing more compact and lighter with circa 250 bhp...

Honda s2000 is an option, anything else spring to mind? the cheaper the better

Not an easy fit in the v6 chassis, im really looking for somthing more compact.

its bad enough working on the v8 in the tuscan

Although if we cut the front off there it might be a bit easier.

is forced induction an option??? if it is a cossy or scooby engine might be an option!

you could look at Audi V6's. dont know much about them but they will be strong and better than an old 12 valve ford V6.

thanks chris

Graham, I've been playing with the idea of a 2.5 or 3l Duratec engine for some time now to go into my Tasmin, coupled to one of the Jag getrag boxes (221 i think).

Iain

Boosted 2.9 24v, you know it makes sense in the long term. It has lots of torque and potential for development. Any 24v will need a rebuild for racing so you may as will fit turbo pistons whilst it's apart.

What about an AJP8, TVR's own V8?
I've seen one on Saturday, and it is quite small

4 pot should give more room, a 2ltr pinto will go in so more modern stuff usually more compact.

what gearbox do they use to make the audi rwd.. Im not really into turbos though..

if going the 4 pot route, why not just throw a sierra/escort cossie lump in? 280bhp stock... but you know you will want to start tuning it......

The base cossy is only 205 stanadrd isnt it and i've seen sooooooooo many of them broken when you do any tuning to them, Turbo motors dont seem to suit the tasmin either the suspension needs delicate balancing, somthing you cant do with wads of boost comming and going...

the pinto block is quite heavy as well. It would be quite easy to fit though and several of them have been converted to cossy power.

I must admit im swaying towards honda rpm 240 bhp stock 6 speed box and 9000+ rpm yikes

s6 probably bit too long. you can just get an rv8 in lengthwise.

Lexus V8 ?

Rover/Honda V6...they are bound to be cheap, as fitted to the 825 or 827.

There are bound to be quite a few half modern cars that used some sort of V6 with reasonable power, that you could buy cheaply.

I would hope you seriously consider a Duratec 3.0 - they are very light, spares are readily available, and with a deresticted exhaust the DAMB version (in Jags) can make 260 bhp without touching the internals.

The fact that you don't need to do an expensive rebuild to get an engine to approach even being reliable is a huge bonus and may more than make up for the slightly higher purchase price from a breaker.

You will also get a lot more driveability from this than a Honda S2000 which is as flat as a pancake until you rev the nuts off it.
