Does anyone know of a good uk supplier for a 302 ? Is the 351 Windsor the same block ? Repower and Real Steel have both been suggested as possibilities-anyone had any experience of either ?

Real steel are excellent in terms of advice and V8 tuning bits but I don'y have any expierience of their 'crate' engine deals which I presume is what you're after. Also try:ls1.com

From what I gather, the 302 is a different block to the 351, it's quite a bit light.
It can also be taken out to around 340 cubes without the weight penalty of the 351w.

The only other UK supplier I know of besides Real Steel and Repower is Abbey Sportscars in Norwich www.v8tuner.co.uk.
Also, have a look on www.enginefactory.com.
Their prices are good, just depends on the shipping costs.

What's the engine for?

I'm finding the Elan a bit tame

Seriously ? Friend is already planning the replacement of his -yet to be delivered- TVR with a Daytona replica, and asked me to enquire on PH.

Try Peter Knight in Daventry. Knight Engineering. Not sure if Fords are his thing, but he's a whizz with the chevy.

No harm in giving him a ring. Be patient though, if they're on the dyno they put the answer machine on.

The 351 is designed after, and is similar in many ways to the 302. For example, the heads and cams are interchangeable, although their firing orders are different. Be careful when choosing to swap heads around. The 351 head has larger valves, but it also has a larger combustion chamber which will lower the compression ratio. If you are looking for high compression, one good choice is to rework the 302 head with larger valves. The heads on my 302 have 2.02 in. intake, and 1.6 in exhaust valves. The primary difference between these two engines is the deck height. The 351 has a longer stroke, and is about 100 Kilos heavier than the 302. And because it is taller than the 302, it is also wider at the top. So, the amount of space available is a consideration. In recent years an aftermarket stroker kit on a 302 has become a very popular option to the 351. You punch out the 302 cylinders to .030 in. over (I think), then you swap in a 3.4 in. stroke crank for the standard 3.0 in stroke crank. What you get is 347 cu. in., and 400 + HP is pretty common on pump gas with MPFI.

Actually, it's a '72 Maverick. They were kind of a down-sized Mustang from 1970 to 1977. In fact, many of the early Mustang parts also fit the Maverick. They came standard with an in-line 6 banger, but the V8 was an option. I beefed it up quite a bit just for fun and novelty. I've never dyno'd it, but I'd guess that it is delivering about 350 HP, and it has a Top-loader 4 spd. and a 9" posi w/3.70 gears. She a screamer.

I'd attach a photo, but I haven't figured out how to do that on this forum.

Cheers!
