You may be thinking about the Aldon Ignitor. It replaces the points, but uses the original advance curve weights. I found this to be a huge improvement on my mini. Aldon also sell dizzys with differnet advance curves to suit the engine tuning. Remember though, that in an XI, the dizzy will be kept nice and warm and not behind a front grill getting soaked, so the chances of any issues are smaller than you may expect.
if you really want a modern lump, try a k series rover engine, 1100 and 1400 8valve, 14,16,and 1800 16valve, use a type 9 ford 5 speed with a caterham belhousing, quaife do a range of ratios if you want to have a tamper, i've seen some dry sumped caterhams, so have a chat with them, as long as you keep the coolant in it, its a damn fine engine and can be tweeked to near on 200bhp (VHPD) or up to 145bhp std with the vvc set up.Its very light too and obviously ready for unleaded.

The megajolt unit would require a trigger wheel on the engine somewhere, normally on the front crank pully. Also, to do it properly you need either a MAP or TPS, so the megajolt knows how much load the engine is under. You can run without, but that just gives a 2D map, much like a dizzy. It won't fit in the dizzy, as it needs a control box. However if you where properly ingenious, you may be able to split the board so it'd fit in the dizzy in a few layers......

You don't keep the dizzy with megajolt, they recommend to use the ford EDIS module, timing wheel is of course required, but no dizzy.annodomini2 said:

Oh, I know, I meant it purely as an aesthetic touch. Not too much point having a classic looking sports car, and then having obvious electrikery bits under the bonnet. I think that the latest MJ units don't need EDIS, they can run internal drivers.
Megajolt needs the EDIS module, but Megasquirt 'n' Spark can run igntion using internal coil drivers. The fuel controller part of Megasquirt can be ignored if you want to use it only for ignition control.Well, I'm off to see the factory and have a test drive next weekend. I'll ask them about ignition systems and whether they have any experience with MegaJolt...
I'd look into it myself, but the new job means lots of work and not so much free time as I was used to
Thanks for the pointers.
