Clutch release bearing?
Discussion
Hello,
I have a Westfield SEI 1800 Zetec to a MT75 gearbox to LSD, I dont know all that much about it!
The gears engage nice until I try to do fast and at high revs (racing) the gears can either crunch or they can be very difficult to engage.
I think the clutch realease bearing maybe at fault because there is a sqeal when the clutch is not pressed, as soon as I press the clutch even slightly the noise stops.
Can a clutch realease bearing cause this? the whole lot is only 9000 miles old, i fear that the chap who had the car before me rode the clutch an awful lot!
I would love any advice!
thanks
Dan

OK - I'll try to help..
When the noise stops when you depress the clutch - this is definately a sign that the release bearing is past it's best.
So - a new bearing is needed ...
I do not believe that is the cause of your second problem..
That sounds like you are beating the syncro .. possible if you change gear very quickly .. or maybe the syncro is worn.
You could change gear a bit slower..
Or box out and have it reconned..
Personally - I'd live with it until it sounds bad then change the whole clutch assembly and have the g/box reconditioned.

I'll second what the Rev said.

agreed also. as a short term assist you might try to vary the oils in the gearbox. funnily enough you dont want a snazzy ultra slippery oil as the synchro cones need some friction to operate fully. people have mentioned redline racing oils in the past to me - maybe worth a go.Steve
