This isn't strictly an engine thing I know, but I can't find another home for it so here goes!:

I've got a '02 Mondeo 2.0 Zetec - great car! ...but: the ABS seems to be highly sensitive, for example when driving over speed humps or the painted on rumble strips as you approach a roundabout, the breaking goes all squishy.

Of course, everytime I take to the dealer, it doesn't show up!

Is this a fault or a quirk of the car?

Nope its not a fault! If the abs light is OFF then theres no fault detected in the system.
The ABS light may come ON when its modulating the pedal under heavy braking but thats not because its faulty, its just letting you know its working.
If the abs light comes on and stays on, then youve got a fault.

Recently i had cause to post an article on this forum regarding the same thing happening with my GT4.
Under application of brakes(dosent need to be heavy) the ABS would function and i would instantly lose my brakes for a few seconds, VERY disconcerting!
Not the cars fault but the local councils fault!
Their usage of red tarmac with ridges, and those stupid speed bars and others were causing my problem.
In the end, i had no option but to disconnect the ABS, ive had no similar problems since!
I wrote to the local council and made it clear that their policy of slapping this crap everywhere and then not maintaining it was going to lead to a tragic accident, induced by their failures.
Theyve recently removed ALL the red tarmac from my local roads (the ones whos pics i posted here).
Hope this helps.

Thanks!

I will get writing to my local council!!!

Strange how things designed to make us safer seem to make things more dangerous isn't it?
