Mixing engine oils

Should I be concerned if my RV8 engine running Silkoline Pro S is topped up with 1.5L of Mobil Synth S ??
Cheers, jon.
I wouldnt do it ! They are not the best engines for oil pressure as it is and then you put synthetic oil in to make matters worse I use valvoline racing 20/50 and i have found it to be the best oil and my mates use it and find it the best aswell.Cheers, jon.

Oil pressure does not reduce simply because a synthetic oil is being used, it depends on viscosity. Silkoline Pro S is available in 10W50, which will have very simmilar viscosity to your 20W50 at working temperatures, with the bonus of not being a viscous in cold weather. As long as the Mobil of of the same or very simmilar viscosity rating it should be fine to mix.
I would never use a 10/50 in a rover v8, Unless i wanted to wreck it. I once tryd 10/50 valvoline and the oil light wouldnt go of unless it was over about 1200rpm which in my eyes isnt right. i had to buy 2 gallon of it only to drain it out after 2 runs on the drag strip. So managed about 2 miles and threw it out to put some proper stuff in. Have you ever owned a rover v8 ???

Then your Rover V8 must of been knackered,be it worn crank journels/bearings oil pump etcEdited by v8 jago on Sunday 12th August 10:37

It might of been that it was a red hot day and it was getting thrashed down the strip, But it still made the oil light come on. I dont know what oil pump they have on tvr`s but the ones on older rover v8`s are not very good and they are known for bad oil pressure. I have got the new style on my current engine and stayes over 45 on tickover when fully warmed up

WTF? You're saying that 10W50 will wreck your engine but 20W50 is OK?
Both of these are relatively thick oils and should both be fine in a healthy engine. In fact since they meet the same 'hot' standard there's no reason to expect any significant difference between them at operating temperature. Much thinner oils are used in these engines without any particular problems, and if your oil light stays on at idle either you've got the wrong rating pressure switch or there's something wrong with your engine.
WTF ???? If you need to be that way billy boffin. I clearly stated that when i put 10/50 in the oil light was on whilst on tickover, Are you still following !! I put 20/50 in and it was fine. Dont ask me why it was fine as i was only the driver and not the oil pump. When i asked various people about this they told me to ues valvoline racing 20/50. That is what i have always used and that is what i will keep using as my engines get used and not pampered. Is that ok!

A fine oil. My point is that there is no real difference between 10/50 and 20/50 in a hot engine, and I don't see any reason to expect problems running 10/50 and no reason why changing to 20/50 would fix them. 10/50 and 20/50 are both way up at the thick end of the range of oils usually used in these engines and there's no reason to expect oil pressure problems in a healthy engine with either of them.As opie oil man once quoted to me .. when I asked a similar question ..
All oils are a blend (multigrade)..
I think it will be fine for a top-up .. done the same myself loads of times over the years.
When having a service - it's ofter worth asking them to top up a litre container (supply your own) .. as they often buy huge drums of the stuff.. this avoids this problem.
