Guys, can anyone shed some light on why my gear stick rattles? I believe it is a type 9 five speed from a sierra, currently resident in a Quantum Xtreme.

It gets worse in 3rd, 4th and 5th but stops with light fingure pressure.

Any clues as to what it is and how to fix?

Posssibly the springs which push the lever towards the central position are getting a bit weak? Or possibly the engine/gearbox mounting bushes are getting a tad knackered, allowing it to move around?

Is it fitted with a short shift kit?

I don't think it is a quick shift, would it make a difference?

theres a little black plastic 'saddle' which often break up and disappear into the box itself (with no obvious problems). It sits between the end of teh gera lever yoke and the selector rod. about 80p each iirc from a ford dealer.

Ahah! that could be it - I will take a stroll down to the local fraud dealers.

Cheers

Had a chat with a really knowledgable chap in the Fraud spares place in Borehamwood, and he quickly located the bush in question.

About a quid later and a few dropped bolts the rattling is much reduced although not completely gone. I guess it must be down to wear in the box now frown

I had a problem like this ended up modifying the stick with a suspension bush to fully isolate, worked a treat.
