As we all know the RV8 is rather long in the tooth and has rubbish cylinder heads which will always be a limiting factor, but what do people think can be considered a respectable output these days for a 4.6 ltr.

I'm assuming aftermarket ECU, better cam, etc etc but no laughing gas or chargers, or steel bottom ended race engines...

I think you'd be doing well to get 275BHP - maybe 300. The last 5 litre TVR versions of the engine claimed about 330 but, I think, were closer to 300. The Rover-based Tuscan racers had about 400 - maybe a bit less, and used to fatigue even the cross-bolted blocks regularly. I've a feeling Landrover put some extra webs in the 4.6 as a result of TVR's experience. I also can't quite remember the mods made to the 5 litre but I think the heads were opened out about as much as was possible without going into the water galleries and I think they had a very high-lift cam and (maybe) roller rockers. Certainly they had modified rocker covers to clear the rockers!

I thought 265 bhp / 285 lbft was respectable for mine on stage III heads with a mild cam. The induction had had some money spent on it but by no means extreme. That's not far off what a typical TVR 500 engine puts out.

http://www.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk/john/woolf... I have fond memories of watching this(Steve Green,s MK1 Cortina)many years ago(this RV8 screamed,no forced induction),and was competing with cars with Big block Chevy,s(and beating em)rumour as it that TVR got info about the RV8 development from his engine builder(cant say for certain though)awesome carhehe

well i'm seeing 340 ish hp on my dyno from my best 5 litre cars with nothing more than simple tuning work, so above 300 would be easy for a well modded 4.6

I'm hoping for around 300bhp 310 torque from my 4.6..

I think it all depends on the CR as my cam is a V8D 404 mech .. hopefully the Emerald will bring out the best.

The 4.6 in my old westfield was putting out about 285bhp and about 300ftlb torque. It was built by John Eales and cost (I understand) about £8k if that's any help. It ran a big webber carb though and really needed a megasquirt and throttle body conversion for more power I guess but better fuel economy.

A couple of rules i work too as mentioned in the first post, after market ecu and c/r optimised for cam etc...
mild road 65 bhp ltr
fast road 70 bhp ltr
trackday 75 bhp ltr
race 80 bhp ltr
These are only guidlines and obviously driveability comes into it but a good base to be aiming for

Forgive me if this has been answered already, but what kind of induction mods do these rules assume?
