friend at work is having trouble with her gearbox/clutch in a rover 600. 75000miles ish. orignal clutch still.

quick drive reveals, slightly difficult to get into gear when warm, almost impossible when cold.
from stationary, in first gear with no revs applied other than idle, slight lift of the clutch and the car moves.

i reckon release bearing or clutch plate.

any other ideas?

Has the gearbox oil been checked? Sounds like the clutch is ok, and its a gearbox issue, low oil would make changing difficult. IIRC you need about 2.5l of 10w/40 engine oil for Rover 600 boxes.

Check clutch slave cylinder for leakage 1st(common),then bleed mucky old clutch fluid(no ever bothers changing itrolleyes)failing that the clutch is shot(centre plates hanging up)fit quality 3part clutch kit.
