right chaps....ive just bought a c20 let vauxhall turbo engine. its fitted with a kkk16 hybrid turbo ( larger compressor wheel/housing) now, its smoking like hell. im presuming i can rebuild it myself, but how do i determine which kit to buy ???? will the oilseals be the same as a std kkk16 ( presuming the shaft is the same dia ????)

any advice guys ????

p.s buying a new turbo isnt an option. its going in a corsa, and space is a huge issue. there's exactly 9mm between the turbo and the radiator !

If you plan to rebuild it then take a lot of care marking the wheel positions relative to the shafts as the balancing is crucial.

If you have to ask then I suspect you'd be better letting a dealership do it for you and it'll have a warranty.

Ive taken one apart before....but I wouldnt want to build it again, and expect it to last.

Not that they are complicated....just that its better to leave them to people who do know what they are doing, and can inspect properly, and re-assemble properly.

And if you only have 9mm...move the radiator lol

a new turbo might be an option!

i think its this months edition of performance Vauxhall (or something along those lines) there is a corsa with the c20let engine with a stainless manifold and new turbo. worth a look.

Chris.

PS might have got it wrong but still worth looking into the manifold route if it means you can run a better turbo.

Putting a turbo back together it easy, balancing it correctly however is not.

Take it to a turbo specialist, these things spin a fair old rate you know.
