As it says really, is there a water pump to fit the later timing covers which rotates the correct way. I would like to use a very late timing cover, benefiting from the crank driven oil pump (& cam sensor) but retain the pre-serp ancillaries. If you just want to spool the water pump & alt, serpentine conversion seems excessive to me. I much prefer tugging on my alt than that damned tensioner anyway wink

Given the expense and complexity of upgrading to Serp, and the number of people wanting to use the later oil covers (as well as 4.0/4.6 bottom ends) I'm kind of surprised no one who builds the water pumps has come up with a hybrid pump, or am I missing something?

Sorry not heard of a way round this ..

But it is a joke that the water pump rotates the wrong way .. what 2@ thought of that one.

Dave, why not just use serp crank pulley and a JE alt bracket?

This allows the use of a shorter serp belt and "nothing " on the right hand side of the engine. (except a preserp swirl pot !!)

Have you got a pic of that Ant? Cant really see how you can get a serp belt to wrap round the water pump with just the alt??

I'm assuming thats what you've done with your :boastful:hehe note about the swirl tank..

Yes, that was my second point, I am really surprised none of the water pump suppliers has grafted an old style impeller onto the new style pump body.. I cant see a problem aligning the pulleys?

I've got a pic, mail me via my profile and I'll send you a pic.

the JE alternator bracket does just that. looking at the engine from the front the alt is sited high and to the left. the short serp belt goes over that under the left 1/4 of the water pump pully and then round the crank pully and back. we have no probs with it on the racer

Dave, not done it yet, but I will go that way, when build this 4.6.

In effect you end up with the belt running around the alt and the crank pulley ,with the water pump running against it on the outside if you like.

I posted link to the Pic Graham sent above Ant, looks a good alternative. Forgot to ask Graham, and you may have looked at, what alts you used, the heavy duty LR 100+A jobbies seem a little like overkill for our not so electrikeryally complicated cars wink Could I just stick a serp pulley on my Lucus A127?

I'm waiting response to mail requesting cost/availability, will post result when I get it.

Sounds like I'd better do some measuring and have a hunt for some alt alts wink

Pretty sure its about £45, westfield do them too, but those are about £70!!!

Also ,I saw one today on a Tuscan challenge race engine at Readman racing, so maybe worth giving John a call.

I've heard stories of people trying to fabricate alt brackets and reverting to manufactured ally items before Ant.. Sounds like you need something cast to avoid any flexing. Definitely beyond my capabilities, don't think I would risk it even with my best betting boots on wink

Yeah the JE one is cast.

I went to the je one for simplicity and the fact You know it will work. also if I need a new short serp belt I can phone je and have one next day, rather than spend a day wading through the local parts supplier trying to match one up..

Im not known for splashing the cash around willy nilly, but I did end up buying my bellhousing, alt bracket and trigger wheel and sensor/sensor mount ( cast alloy) from je as the time saved balanced out the cash etc..

You can invent the wheel everytime but its not always worth it...;-)
